It is known that Ji Chang Wook gave Ryu Deok Hwan a ride on his bicycle to the acting academy every day during their high school days. The story of Ryun Deok Hwan and Ji Chang Wook’s strong friendship revealed on tvN’s talk show “Taxi” drew attention again on theqoo.
Appearing on “Taxi”, Ji Chang Wook shared, “We can easily see actors through the media so I thought it must have been very easy to be an actor. At some point, I thought, ‘I have to become an actor’”. He proudly shared, “‘I just need to become an actor, right?’… With that idea, I decided to go to the Theater and Film Department. I had a friend who studied that first, and that was Ryu Deok Hwan. We were classmates in middle and high school.”
He explained, “Ryu Deok Hwan advised me to prepare for the entrance exam at an acting academy, so I started attending the academy later. Then I got into college on my first try.”
Both Ji Chang Wook and Ryu Deok Hwan expressed their desire to pursue studies in the Theater and Film Department when they became high school seniors. The two were in the same class during their senior year. Ji Chang Wook was described as an ordinary student who worked hard and focused on his grades at the beginning of the semester.
At that time, Ryu Deok Hwan, who had already gained recognition as an actor at a young age, was already attending an acting academy during his third year of high school. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that Ryu Deok Hwan had a significant influence on the future of Ji Chang Wook, including his admission to college. Having Ryu Deok Hwan by his side during a period when he was contemplating his career path, Ji Chang Wook became more interested in acting and naturally approached acting studies.
After graduating, Ji Chang Wook sometimes took his friend Ryu Deok Hwan on his bicycle and dropped him off at the acting academy, but never thought he would study there.
One day, Ji Chang Wook made a suggestion to Ryu Deok Hwan, saying “I’ll take you to the academy until you stop studying there”.
In response, Ryu Deok Hwan said to Ji Chang Wook, “I’m on my way to the academy. If you also want to pursue acting in the Theater and Film Department, why don’t you try preparing for the practical exam at the academy? You might be shocked when doing the real exam later on”. These words from Ryu Deok Hwan really left a tremendous impact on Ji Chang Wook.
After making his debut in 1992 through MBC’s “TV Kindergarten Ppo Ppo Ppo”, Ryu Deok Hwan solidified his position as an actor who can play various genres after starring in dramas, such as the “Quiz of God” series and the film “Like a Virgin”. In addition, the actor married Jeon Soo Rin, CEO of a shopping mall, in April of last year after 8 years of dating.
