Known for his striking visuals and strong presence in heavy action dramas, Ji Chang Wook is preparing for his return in The Manipulated, a dark and intense new project. The series follows Tae Jung (played by Ji Chang Wook), an ordinary man falsely accused of a meticulously staged murder case and sent to prison. Upon learning that Yohan (Do Kyung Soo) orchestrated the setup, he vows to take revenge.
Recently, the production team unveiled teaser still cuts revealing Ji Chang Wook’s character transformation. The images shocked viewers, with many barely able to recognize the beloved star. In the photos, Ji Chang Wook appears as a worn-out prisoner with a pale, grayish face, chapped lips, and sharp features accentuated by noticeable weight loss. His sunken cheeks and prominent cheekbones sparked speculation about how much weight he shed to embody the role so convincingly.
Fans reacted with disbelief:
- “He looks like a vampire…”
- “What did they do to his face? I can’t find my prince charming anymore.”
- “He must’ve dropped at least 10 kilos. His face is just cheekbones now.”
- “I almost scrolled past without realizing it was my favorite actor’s drama.”
- “Why is he always in suffering roles? When will he finally escape hardship?”

Interestingly, The Manipulated is a drama adaptation of the film Fabricated City, which also starred Ji Chang Wook. The movie was a commercial success, praised for his intense performance. Now, with a full-length series, expectations are high for Ji Chang Wook to once again prove his mastery in dark thrillers.
Despite his charming smile and romantic hero looks, Ji Chang Wook has built a solid career with gritty, action-packed roles requiring both physical stamina and emotional depth. From Healer and The K2 to Fabricated City and The Worst of Evil, he has become a go-to actor for adrenaline-fueled, high-stakes dramas and his latest transformation suggests The Manipulated will only strengthen that reputation.
