On August 27, comedian Lee Yong-jin’s YouTube channel uploaded a video titled “Jeon Somi’s Tarot Reading—One Step Closer to Hollywood?” where Somi candidly shared her recent thoughts. Having just released her new single “EXTRA,” Somi noted that she contributed many creative ideas to the music video. Lee Yong-jin then brought up her unexpected past appearance on MBC’s “Mystic TV: Surprise,” where Somi played a reenactment role.

In the broadcast, Somi portrayed a mysterious woman who vanishes into the forest, with her doll-like visuals amplified by wigs, makeup, and the signature quirky editing style of “Surprise.” Interestingly, her cameo as an “extra” matched the theme of her new single “EXTRA,” adding symbolic meaning. Somi admitted, “I looked everywhere I could to appear as an extra.”

The idol also confessed that filming the music video sparked her deeper interest in acting. She revealed her close friendship with veteran actor Sul Kyung-gu, sharing, “I showed him my acting. Uncle Kyung-gu never says anything unnecessary.” According to Somi, both Sul Kyung-gu and his wife Song Yoon-ah seriously reviewed her performance, telling her, “Somi, this is what we call ‘method.’ You’ve experienced a rare moment that even we only encounter occasionally.”

Encouraged by their words, Somi expressed her desire to try darker roles, such as in horror films or as a villain. “Female villains are always beautiful and memorable. Even when I watch movies, I tend to remember the villains more than the kind characters,” she explained. She then surprised fans by revealing that she has recently received audition offers from prominent international directors.

Fans also recall that Somi’s father, Matthew Douma, once appeared as a U.S. soldier in the hit K-drama “Descendants of the Sun.” With Somi now exploring acting opportunities herself—starting with cameos and potentially extending to Hollywood—many are watching closely to see if she will indeed follow in her father’s footsteps and expand her career from music to acting.
