Jeon So Nee’s Controversial Performance in ‘Our Blooming Youth’

The female lead has received a series of mixed reviews for her performance in her new historical drama.

Our Blooming Youth was a historical drama project that many audiences were looking forward to. However, after airing 6 episodes, the show’s popularity noticeably decreased. There were not many discussions about the show on social media, and the ratings continuously decreased from 4.2% in episode 1 to 3.3% in episode 6.

Our Blooming Youth

Discussing the reasons for the declining appeal of Our Blooming Youth, audiences consistently pointed out issues with the script and acting. The uninteresting and unoriginal script left viewers wondering why the director was confident enough to make a 20-episode series. Specifically, the biggest issue with the show seemed to be the lead actress Jeon So Nee. After receiving good reviews for her portrayal of a strong, brave girl in episode 1, viewers began leaving negative comments about her performance from episode 2 onwards.

The audience pointed out that Jeon So Nee was not suitable for the role, especially since she had to cross-dress in the series, which seemed to be too challenging for the young beauty. Not only was she unsuitable for the role, her acting was also considered inflexible. Viewers believed that she was trying to show a strong personality but in the end, So Nee seemed to be shouting in the face of the audience.

Jeon So Nee was not a familiar face to Korean audiences before Our Blooming Youth, despite being 31 years old and having worked in the industry for many years. The reason for her lack of recognition is that she mostly played supporting roles and guest roles, and did not leave a particularly strong impression with her acting. One of her notable works was the drama Encounter, which starred Park Bo Gum and Song Hye Kyo. Until now, it had been 5 years since she had received attention from the public, and unfortunately, her performance in Our Blooming Youth has generated a lot of controversy.
