Jennie’s debut drama “The Idol” is set to end earlier than scheduled

American drama “The Idol”, starring BLACKPINK member Jennie, will reportedly have an early end in humiliation.

According to US media outlet Deadline on June 27th, the HBO drama “The Idol”, which was originally planned to end Season 1 with six episodes, will wrap up after airing episode 5 on July 2nd. The reason is presumed to be the significant decline in ratings.

“The Idol”, starring Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd, depicts the story of famous idol Jocelyn and her friends in LA, the US.

Lily-Rose Depp played pop star Jocelyn, who canceled a tour due to the shock after her mother’s death and is preparing to make a comeback, while The Weeknd appeared in the series as Tedros, who helps Jocelyn work on her album.

Challenging acting for the first time through “The Idol”, Jennie took on the role of Dyanne, Jocelyn’s friend and backup dancer who seeks a debut with Jocelyn’s song when Jocelyn suffers a slump in her career.

The first and second episodes of “The Idol” were pre-released at the 76th Cannes Film Festival held in May. Shortly after its release, the drama sparked controversy over suggestive content.

Apart from the controversies surrounding “The Idol”, Jennie’s acting skills received favorable reviews. On the 19th (local time), US business magazine Forbes said, “Jennie’s talent and captivating presence make her a natural fit for the even-bigger screen. While she has already impressed audiences with her role in The Idol, it is time for her to set her sights on the silver screen.”
