A viral clip of BLACKPINK’s Jennie performing in Taiwan has stirred controversy online, as the idol became the target of hate comments and sexist remarks — despite the moment being seemingly harmless.
On October 18, BLACKPINK returned to the stage in Taiwan after several months off. The performance drew massive attention, but soon after, short clips circulated online showing what some users labeled as Jennie appearing “distracted” during a choreography segment.
In the now-viral video — viewed more than 1 million times — Rosé is seen lightly grabbing Jennie’s arm to reposition her on stage. Jennie laughs as she’s moved, appearing momentarily off-balance. Just before that, she had glanced behind her, which many viewers misinterpreted as her being “distracted.”
While the short interaction seemed playful, some online users took it out of context, claiming Jennie was distracted by a tattooed male backup dancer, accusing her of losing focus during the performance.
“She keeps looking at the male dancer — totally unprofessional,” one comment read.
The speculation quickly escalated, with a wave of hate comments and slut-shaming directed toward Jennie across platforms like Weibo and X (Twitter).
In response, fans rushed to Jennie’s defense, providing contextual explanations for what actually happened. According to fan-taken footage, Jennie was simply handing off her mic to another dancer moments before Rosé’s gentle push — a normal part of stage transitions.
“She wasn’t distracted — she was just doing her job. People need to stop sexualizing her every move,” one fan commented.

Others called out the misogyny in the backlash, noting that similar behavior from male idols rarely receives the same criticism.
“This double standard is exhausting. Jennie’s professionalism is constantly questioned just because she’s confident on stage,” another user wrote.
