The chemistry between IU and director Hirokazu Koreeda is drawing attention.
Recently, a post titled “A Japanese ajusshi who likes IU” was shared on the online community FM Korea. The post contains a short edited version of “Blue Room Live”, a Twitter live broadcast attended by the cast of “Broker” on May 19th to communicate with fans ahead of the movie premiere at the Cannes International Film Festival in France on May 27th (Korean time).
The main cast including Song Kang Ho, Kang Dong Won, IU, and Lee Joo Young, showed their warm and realistic chemistry that was established through the filming. The live broadcast recorded 1.1 million views, setting an all-time high for a Korean movie.
World-renowned Japanese director Hirokazu Koreaan also participated in the live broadcast and his cute expression of affection for IU especially caught the attention of netizens. IU winked while doing a heart with her hands, while director Koreeda smiled shyly and copied her by doing a somewhat “sloppy” heart.
When asked about the reason for casting IU in his first time working on a Korean movie, director Hirokazu Koreeda said at the press conference held on May 10th, “I fell in love with the Hallyu wave drama while staying at home due to the pandemic. I became a big fan of IU after watching ‘My Mister’. In the second half of ‘My Mister,’ I kept crying at IU’s scenes. I thought no one could play this character but her.”
“Broker” is scheduled to be released in cinemas on June 8th.
