Jamboree concert full of controversies: from changing directing team to reason behind IVE’s appearance

Surrounded by controversies, the 2023 World Scout Jamboree has finally ended after holding the K-POP Super Live.

On August 11th, Jamboree organizer and the government announced that they would hold a closing ceremony for the 25th World Scout Jamboree and a K-pop Super Live concert.

However, even the concert was controversial in various ways. In particular, the organizer kept changing the date, venue, and performer lineup of the concert.

Changing from existing directing team to “Music Bank” staff

The concert preparation was rushed. According to Tenasia on the 10th, the existing directors were replaced by KBS’s “Music Bank” PDs and staff. Because of that, “Music Bank” had to cancel its weekly broadcast on the 11th to air the live broadcast of the K-pop Super Live concert.

K-pop fandoms also showed mixed reactions to this concert. Fans of rookies expressed disappointment because their idols lost an opportunity to promote on “Music Bank”, while fans of popular singers complained about the sudden changes that messed up with their idols’ schedules. On the other hand, some expressed excitement about seeing performances of many artists in one place.

IVE attended due to Starship founder’s office raid?

Among the performers on the lineup, IVE already canceled their attendance on the 9th after the concert was rescheduled from the 6th to the 11th. However, the girl group later confirmed their appearance only a day before the concert. In this regard, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism explained that IVE voluntarily decided to perform at the concert.

However, many people suspected that this decision might have something related to the Financial Supervisory Service’s raid of IVE’s agency Starship founder’s office for his involvement in Kakao’s acquisition of SM in February.

Trying to steal performers from a local event?

After changing the venue, Jamboree concert organizer even attempted to take away performers that had been scheduled for a local event over six months.

The 2023 Jeonju Ultimate Music Festival (JUMF) was originally planned to be held for three days from the 11th. On the 6th, JUMF director posted on social media, saying “Jamboree organizer asked for our understanding as they intended to have the headliner of our Friday show at Jamboree’s K-POP Super Live concert, which will take place just an hour before our event.”

The next day, the director received another message from Jamboree organizer saying they had solved the issue and would ensure that the performers don’t overlap.
