International action star Jackie Chan has candidly opened up about the long-standing rift between himself and his son, Jaycee Chan, admitting deep regret over the strict parenting methods that ultimately pushed his son away.
While promoting his latest film, the 71-year-old actor rarely spoke about family matters but surprised fans by addressing his strained relationship with Jaycee, now 43. Jackie Chan confessed that he firmly believed in the idea of “strict fathers raise successful sons,” adopting a high-pressure approach that left little room for warmth or understanding.
According to Jackie, his harsh attitude extended even to moments that should have been affectionate. He revealed that when Jaycee called on special occasions such as Father’s Day or his birthday, he would scold him instead of expressing gratitude, insisting that communication should happen year-round rather than on holidays. In some cases, Jackie admitted he even hung up the phone mid-call.
“Every time I saw him, I scolded him. Not a single kind word,” Jackie said, reflecting on the past. Over time, this suffocating dynamic caused Jaycee to withdraw completely—from calling once a year to not calling at all out of fear.
