IVE’s outfits discrimination reminds netizens of BLACKPINK: Is the stylist being biased towards Jang Wonyoung?
Netizens think IVE is in a similar situation to BLACKPINK.
On December 17, KBS’s year-end music festival, KBS Gayo Daechukje 2021 took place with the participation of popular idol groups such as Red Velvet, SEVENTEEN, aespa, STAYC, ENHYPEN, TXT, IVE… In the lineup, the 2-week-old rookie girl group – IVE especially attracted the attention thanks to their refreshing and pretty visuals on the red carpet.
However, photos of IVE on the red carpet have also sparked controversy. It is not difficult to notice that Jang Wonyoung was wearing a totally different outfit from the rest of the group. She stood out from other members in white outfits by wearing black. Netizens wonder if Starship was being too biased?
Turns out there’s a reason. Wonyoung was actually wearing her special MC outfit. Perhaps the stylist let her wear this outfit on the red carpet to save time.

While some Korean netizens felt that it was obvious Wonyoung was given a separate outfit for her MC gig, international fans were mostly displeased.
The dress code at this year’s KBS Gayo Daechukje is white. Except for Wonyoung, the other 3 special MCs were all wearing white to match the theme, so many fans questioned the stylist’s decision to dress Wonyoung in a black outfit.
Not only the red carpet outfit, Jang Wonyoung’s ELEVEN performance outfit at KBS’s event also made the audience angry about the agency’s obvious favoritism for her.
While the other 5 members all wore the same short pants, Wonyoung continued to stand out from the crowd with a flowing, princess-like dress. It doesn’t take 3 seconds to realize who took the most spotlight on the stage that night.
It’s not clear what Starship’s intentions are when it keeps favoring a member so much, or is this simply a stylist’s mistake?
IVE has just debuted for less than a month, yet they are already embroiled in intermittent controversies, demonstrating that the public is paying attention to the group. However, the group needs to have more fair promotion plans if they don’t want to follow in BLACKPINK‘s footsteps. Because when the group has too many individual fandoms, the members will easily become targets of anti-fans’ attacks.
