IVE surpassed BLACKPINK, BTS and more to be voted “Most anticipated artist in 2022” by KPOP experts

Having no comebacks in 2021, is BLACKPINK gradually being “forgotten” in the Kpop market?

Recently, Korean media outlet News1 held a vote for “The most anticipated artist in 2022”. Accordingly, the poll collected opinions of leading experts from 31 large and small companies in the KPOP industry, including HYBE, SM, JYP, YG, RBW, FNC, C9, DSP, WM… The result of this vote shows which KPOP stars are the public’s favorite of 2021 and are expected to go further next year.

The results were surprising to many people as IVE was the leading name. Starship’s rookie girl group, despite having recently debuted, gained much success in a short time with the song “ELEVEN.” However, the group also faced much criticism on its live singing as well as its attitude towards its seniors. However, if IVE can show better attitudes and take advantage of the rising popularity of the song “ELEVEN,” the experts’ expectations of IVE’s success next year are completely reasonable.

Following IVE, SM rookie aespa also has explosive success in 2021 with “Next Level” and “Savage,” which is why the group receiving 10 votes is quite understandable. Having the same number of votes as aespa is BTS. At the “Kpop king” level, BTS will probably continue its achievements in 2022.

Over nearly 14 years of debut, IU’s impact in Korea has never shown any signs of decline. Every comeback of IU is highly anticipated and achieves remarkable results. Whether it’s MV views, physical sales or digital performance, IU proves she is a strong competitor alongside her famous juniors. That’s why fans and the public are having high hopes for IU’s new releases in 2022.

A special case in the list of most anticipated artists is Wanna One. Although the group has disbanded, fans are still looking forward to their reunion in a comeback. After Wanna One’s reunion performance at 2021 MAMA, many netizens expressed their wish for the boy group of Produce 101 season 2 to have an official comeback after 3 years.

It seems like netizens didn’t show high expectations for some famous names like TWICE or BLACKPINK in 2022. It is understandable in the case of BLACKPINK since the girl group did not make any comebacks in 2021. However, this is a regrettable signal for TWICE as they released music products regularly throughout the year but failed to make a hit and their popularity seems to have decreased gradually.

Similar to TWICE, the same company junior ITZY also received no vote when it comes to groups that are highly expected for 2022 and is likely to see a downward trend in their popularity. Unlike the two seniors, JYP’s new girl group, which was introduced through JYPn project and scheduled to debut this February, got 5 votes even before their debut. Earlier, this girl group released several pre-debut cover performances and received favorable reviews from KPOP fans.
