IU Talks About First Album In Her 30s, “I Added The Keyword Of Winning In Every Song”
Singer and actress IU will officially make her comeback on February 20th with the new mini album “The Winning”
“The Winning” is IU’s new album two years and two months after the release of her mini album “Pieces” in December 2021. This is also the female singer’s first album after she turned 30. Containing five songs, including the double title tracks “Shopper” and “Holssi”, “Shh..”, “Love wins all” and “I Stan U”, the album will be available for streaming on all music sites at 6 p.m. on the same day.
Apart from participating in producing the songs, IU also wrote the lyrics for all the songs in her album. Among them, NewJeans’s Hyein and singer-songwriter Jo Won-sun participate in the b-side track “Shh..” as featuring artists. “Live wins all” was already introduced to music fans as a pre-lease song last month.
In an interview video uploaded on her YouTube channel the previous day (February 19th), IU shared, “To the point where you might say ‘You just won’t give up, would you’, I added the keyword of winning in every song. It’s also the album title so no one will get confused”.
She continued, “As I entered my 30s, I think it’s a favorable time for my own competitive spirit and all to reignite. I didn’t have that in my mid to late 20s. While I was preparing this album, I thought about taking on new challenges again. For me, competing and winning is always fun”, adding “Almost every day is that competition for me, a competition with the plan I made”.
IU confessed, “This album starts with the sentence, ‘I decided to live as a dandelion seed’”. The female singer shared, “In my 30s, reorganized and contained my aspiration about living like a wonderful dandelion seed”. She also explained the messages in the title song “Shopper” and “Holssi”.
IU said, “To a person who is restraining his/her desires or ambitions thinking, I’m telling you in this album, ‘There is no need to do that’, ‘Pursue your ambition as you’, ‘Achieve your own victory”.
After releasing her new album, IU will begin her world tour “H.E.R”, starting with the show at KSPO DOME in Seoul on the 2nd, 3rd, 9th, and 10th of March. After then, she will continue the tour in Yokohama, Taipei, Singapore, Jakarta, Hong Kong, Manila, Bangkok, Newark, Atlanta, Washington D.C, Los Angeles, etc. until August.
