ITZY is coming back with their new mini-album ‘KILL MY DOUBT’ and title track ‘CAKE.’
On July 31st at 6 PM KST, ITZY will release their new mini-album ‘KILL MY DOUBT’ and title track ‘CAKE’.
In 2022, ITZY reaffirmed their status as a leading girl group with diverse global activities. Their mini-album ‘CHECKMATE’ in July 2022 reached No.8 on Billboard 200, achieving their best record on the chart since their debut in 2021. Following this, their mini-album ‘CHESHIRE’ in November 2022 surpassed 1 million sales.
Driven by various activities and achievements, ITZY has grown impressively. In July 2023, they are once again capturing the hearts of fans worldwide with their new mini-album ‘KILL MY DOUBT.’ The album conveys a message of “strong belief and courage to break one’s own doubts,” showcasing ITZY’s expressive storytelling about themselves since their debut.
The title track ‘CAKE’ is ITZY’s first collaboration with iconic K-pop composer Black Eyed Pilseung, announcing the birth of a new summer song from ITZY.
ITZY’s members share their thoughts on the comeback:
Yeji: “We prepared this new mini-album with great care and practice. We are really looking forward to this promotion!”
Lia: “We put a lot of effort into coming back with a cooler image. We hope we can show a really good performance and be a source of strength for everyone!”
Ryujin: “Our fans MIDZY have been waiting a lot, so we tried our best to repay their patience with a wonderful album.”
Chaeryeong: “We’re back with a nervous but excited heart! We’ve prepared hard, so we will work hard and enjoy the activities.”
Yuna: “It’s been 8 months since the last comeback, so I’m really nervous. I don’t want to disappoint the fans who have been waiting, and at the same time, I’m excited to show them our new songs.”
When asked about the reason behind ITZY’s global popularity and whether they felt pressure in maintaining the momentum from their previous albums, the members shared their thoughts:
Yeji: The anticipation and love from many people made us think a lot about how we can approach them with better music and performances. Although there was some pressure, it motivated us to grow and work hard.
Lia: We think people love the energy we show on stage when our five different colors come together. Instead of feeling pressure to maintain previous achievements, we wanted to convey empathy and comfort to many people through good songs.
Yuna: We believe ITZY’s global popularity comes from supporting messages of self-confidence and charismatic performances. Although we feel some pressure, it also gives us confidence and helps us grow in a better direction.
Regarding the meaning behind the intense new album title ‘KILL MY DOUBT’ and the memorable moments during the album preparation, ITZY members shared their thoughts:
Ryujin: The title represents the determination to face and overcome all doubts and insecurities in order to believe and love oneself. We wanted to tell ourselves and others, “You’re doing well, and you’ll do well.”
Chaeryeong: The title ‘KILL MY DOUBT’ originated during the interview for the jacket image of ‘CHESHIRE.’ We realized that we had doubts and uncertainties while growing as ITZY, and we decided on this title to bravely break down those doubts. It holds a deeper meaning as it’s based on our own words.
Regarding how they find confidence through words of encouragement from each other, ITZY members said:
Lia: When someone says, “You can do it! It’s you, Lia~!” it’s a great support for me. If we feel lacking in something, we tell each other what we are good at, and that gives us multiple times more energy. They are precious and supportive.
Chaeryeong: The phrase “We’re awesome” boosts our confidence the most. Hearing it makes us stronger!
Yuna: Hearing “You’ve worked hard” is a great source of strength. When those who have been through the same hardships acknowledge our efforts, it melts away the accumulated fatigue and gives us positive energy.
The members also talked about the charm of ‘KILL MY DOUBT,’ the collaboration with Black Eyed Pilseung for ‘CAKE,’ and their summer songs’ appeal:
Lia: The album ‘KILL MY DOUBT’ shows our honest emotions, with various vibes and feelings encapsulated. The diverse tracklist showcases each of our five unique charms brightly.
Ryujin: The most memorable moment during album preparation was choosing the title track ‘CAKE.’ It went through many processes, and when it was decided, it felt very meaningful because it contained the efforts and hard work of many people.
ITZY then discussed ‘CAKE’ and its appeal, as well as what makes it fit into the “ITZY=Summer” formula and attract fans’ expectations:
Yeji: ‘CAKE’ stands out with its refreshing message that showcases our confident energy. The hip performance adds to the song’s charm, making it a perfect fit for summer.
Ryujin: The catchy and easy-to-sing-along lyrics like “Eat it like a king” are the biggest appeal. The bright and refreshing vibe matches ITZY’s stage energy perfectly.
Yuna: One of the main charms of ‘CAKE’ is its melodic line that can blow away the summer heat. It’s a song with a pleasant melody and attractive lyrics that you can comfortably listen to.

Lia: I think people like the soda-like cool and pleasant atmosphere. The title song “CAKE” this time is also like that.
What’s the most memorable “CAKE” that ITZY has received so far?
Yeji: I remember the cake we received at the second fan meeting held on February 12th this year, which was our 4th debut anniversary. I remember blowing out the candles with the members. It was a special gift to celebrate our debut anniversary.
ITZY is actively engaged in activities such as performing at university festivals and appearing on various entertainment programs. Is there a stage or program that ITZY wants to perform at/appear on?
Ryujin: I want to do concerts at bigger venues! We want to try many things and show you our own charm.
Regarding their plans for this promotion, aspirations and results they want to achieve.
Chaeryeong: It’d be great if we could give a lot of energy to many people through this album and new song activities. If we get a chance, we want to make exciting memories with fans at bigger venues.
