“It felt like she was on a long vacation”… Ladies’ Code’s late Eunbi’s 9th anniversary today

It has been 9 years since the late EunB (Ladies’ Code) left this world.

On September 3, 2014, EunB tragically passed away in a traffic accident at the age of 21.

Still missed with a smile

On September 3, 2014, EunB, along with other Ladies’ Code members, was returning from a schedule in Daegu when their vehicle skidded on wet roads near the Singal interchange on the Yongin Expressway, collided with a guardrail, and overturned in a traffic accident.

EunB was transported to the hospital immediately after the accident but sadly passed away the same day. She was 22 years old at the time. It was especially heartbreaking because it was the birthday of another member, Sojung, on the same day as the accident.

Kwon Rise, who was also in the same vehicle, suffered significant injuries and was transferred to the intensive care unit, but she too passed away four days later on September 7.

Fulfillment of EunB’s wishes

EunB made her debut in the music industry in 2013 with Ladies’ Code’s mini-album “CODE#01 Bad Girl.” She subsequently engaged in active activities with songs like “Pretty Pretty,” “So Wonderful,” and “KISS KISS.”

The mourning for EunB, who left this world too soon in a tragic accident, also continued on the music charts. The song that she cherished the most during her lifetime, Ladies’ Code’s “I’m Fine Thank You,” reached the top of the music charts.

After the accident, fans posted messages online and on social media to fulfill EunB’s dreams, and netizens actively participated in making EunB’s small wishes come true.

In 2015, “I’m Fine Thank You” was released as a memorial song. This song was released in honor of the 1st anniversary of the passing of Ladies’ Code members EunB and RiSe, and it featured the heartfelt contributions of Ladies’ Code member Sojung, as well as other artists from the same agency at the time, including Kim Bum Soo, Ivy, Rumble Fish, Sunwoo, and Han Hee Joon.

“Unnies, it feels like you’re on vacation.”

In 2019, Ladies’ Code opened up about their inner feelings after five years through Channel A’s ‘Icon Tact.’ At that time, Ashley and Zuny expressed, “Now, we hope to receive blessings and lighten our heavy hearts,” but Sojung was unable to fully enjoy her birthday following the accident.

Ashley said, “I’m sure RiSe and EunB (late members) would want you (Sojung) to be happy. Of course, it’s your birthday, so they would want you to have a happy day.” She then asked Sojung, “Honestly, how do you feel about September 3rd? What thoughts come to mind the most?”

Sojung replied, “When it’s around the last week of August, my first thought is, when should I visit unnies (RiSe and EunB)? But once I go and come back, I can’t do anything. It’s my birthday, but it’s really tough to see both condolence messages and birthday wishes on social media simultaneously. It’s emotionally overwhelming.” She teared up as she spoke.

She continued, “That week is tough. It’s hard to do anything, and there’s a feeling that I shouldn’t do anything. My birthday is a sad day.”

Especially, Sojung confessed, “At first, it didn’t feel real. It was like unnies had gone on vacation? It didn’t feel real at all, just like they had gone far away on vacation.” She added, “But the other members were really struggling with it. They would appear in my dreams… But strangely, I didn’t dream about them. They didn’t appear in my dreams. Looking back now, I think it was because I couldn’t fully grasp the reality.”
