“Insider” director, “It’s a work that can’t exist without Kang Ha-neul”

“I hope it will be the kind of work that can be worth the time the audience spends watching.”

JTBC’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama “Insider” (directed by Min Yeon-hong/written by Moon Man-se) On June 7, a day before the first broadcast, the team released a video about what to look out for and messages from Kang Ha-neul, Lee Yoo-young and Heo Sung-tae to appeal to the audience.

“Insider” is an action-suspense genre in which the judicial trainee Kim Yo-han (played by Kang Ha-neul), who fell into the abyss during an infiltration investigation, struggles to retrieve his life that has been taken away. The drama wil present meticulous brain fights, high-level psychological war, and hot action intertwined with human desires.

A complex genre drama

“Insider” depicts the growth and revenge of Kim Yo-han, a senior judicial trainee whose fate has changed after an infiltration investigation. The story of a judicial trainee who was forced to become an insider in pursuit of the corrupt prosecutors becomes a blade of revenge that cuts off any carefully woven chain of evil, providing a different catharsis. Above all, Seongju Prison, a virtual space that is the main background of the story, is also interesting. In a place where desire and illegality are mixed, Kim Yo-han’s struggle will add to the thrill by expanding, not only the intense action scenes, but also a psychological battle. Director Min Yeon-hong said, “The setting of a prison which resembles a giant game board, the war between huge forces controlling the world, and the struggle of the main characters running for revenge are compressed into one story, making it a ‘complex genre drama’ that contains a lot of things to look out for.

Kang Haneul’s powerful transformation

Kang Ha-neul will play the role of “Kim Yo-han,” a senior judicial trainee whose fate has changed due to an infiltration investigation, and is predicted to have another “representative character” of his career. Kang Ha-neul, whose bold transformation can be seen right from his visuals, portrays Kim Yo-han’s terrible stories and growth with his amazing acting skills. Kang Ha-neul said, “It’s a work that I approached while thinking about how to make viewers enjoy the scrip that I was reading rather than a pledge to show a different acting method,” adding, “Kim Yo-han is a character who continues to walk a tightrope between his cold rationality and the fiery injustice, anger in his heart. As it is not good to expose everything too much, I put a lot of thought into hot to express his inner feelings.” Kang said. Director Min Yeon-hong also said, “This work cannot exist without Kang Ha-neul. Every moment was filled with actor Kang Ha-neul’s performance” expressing his enthusiastic trust, and heightening the expectations for Kang Ha-neul’s performance, which will delicately portray a Kim Yo-han running toward justice.

A team of actors that can optimize the genres

Another point to look forward to “Insider” is the cast who can optimize the genre. Lee Yoo-young plays Oh Soo-yeon, a hidden businesswoman who hides a knife in her soft smile. Having sharp eyes that can see through any human’s values, she recognizes how extraordinary Kim Yo-han is at a glance and selects him as her new “knife.” Heo Sung-tae is the sponsor prosecutor “Yoon Byung-wook” who is an influential figure of the prosecution office living above the law. After seeing through Kim Yo-han, who hid undercover, he begins his direct move to remove the obstacles. Kim Sang-ho transforms into the prosecutor “Mok Jin-hyung,” who directly selected Kim Yo-han as an undercover, is a non-mainstream member of the prosecution office who shows strong teamwork with Kang Ha-neul. The performance of acting masters who will bring life to Seongju Prison, the “lawless zone,” are also highly expected. Kang Young-seok doubles the drama’s tension by playing the inmate “Jang Sun-oh,” who has the spirit of a genius player in this mind game. Inmate Song Doo-chul, a former gangster with a brutal charisma who claimed to be Yo-han’s helper, is played by Choi Moo-sung. Han Jae-young is in charge of “Jo Hae-do,” Song Doo-chul’s gang member and owner of the secret house. With his life turned upside down by the undercover Kim Yo-han, he wields a knife toward Kim Yo-han’s neck for revenge. On top of that, Choi Dae-hoon plays Roh Seung-hwan, a mysterious prisoner who is one step back from the food chain of Seongju Prison. Expectations are high for their passionate performance.
