Idol-turned-actor Im Si Wan, who is about to return in the upcoming film “Unlocked”, started his trainee life at the age of 21, and debuted as a member of ZE:A at the age of 23, a bit late. However, since he didn’t find success during his idol promotions with ZE:A, Im Si Wan was a “dorm keeper” who spent a lot of time in the dorm. Im Si Wan’s bandmate Kwang Hee advised his members to always prepare for audition opportunities that were randomly given at the time.  Accordingly, Im Si Wan was cast in “The Moon Embracing the Sun” and made his acting debut.

One year after filming “The Moon Embracing the Sun”, Im Si Wan grew rapidly as an actor through the movie “The Attorney”, acting as a college student who was wrongfully arrested and tortured. He surprised everyone by revealing that he lost weight as soon as he was cast, and thus recorded the lowest weight in his life, 49kg. Wanting to do well, he even practiced water torture in the bathtub by himself.

Im Si Wan recalled the time when the water torture filming was over and he was applauded on the set. Im Si Wan expressed his feelings, “At that time, as an idol actor, I felt honored.” Im Si Wan confessed that he was scolded by actor Song Kang Ho a lot while filming the scene where he met his mother in the reception room in “The Attorney”. Im Si Wan was told by Song Kang Ho that he did not radiate emotions.  Afterwards, Song Kang Ho praised Im Si Wan to the people around him and even introduced him to director Bong Joon Ho.

Later, through the drama “Misaeng”, Im Si Wan met his “lifetime character” Jang Geu Rae, a character who represented the youth of the era. Im Si Wan said of “Misaeng”, saying, “I thought that I should reflect the texture of this concern I have right now in my acting. It’s a drama I’ll never get to do again.”

Im Si Wan said that he was worried about surviving in his 20s, adding, “I have never given up on being a singer. I am challenging myself with the thought of completing my 20s to be meaningful, so I’m doing concerts and learning to dance diligently.” Im Si Wan expressed his wish, “I want to look back and think ‘I lived a meaningful life in my 30s’.”

Im Si Wan has continued to leave a strong presence through the drama “Strangers from Hell” and the movie “Emergency Declaration”. He has emerged as an actor whom viewers can trust and watch.
