“I see dating OOO as betrayal,” Cho Yi Hyun’s love philosophy that her friends didn’t agree with

Actress Cho Yi Hyun, who is about to return with the movie “Ditto,” said, “I see dating with a male friend as betrayal. I can never do that.”

Cho Yi Hyun said this in an interview with Wikitree at a cafe in Sogyeok-dong, Chongno-gu, Seoul on the afternoon of Nov 9th.

“Ditto” is a new remake of a 2000 movie of the same name starring Yoo Ji Tae and Kim Ha Neul. The movie depicts a story that happens when Kim Yong (Yeo Jin Goo) in 1999 and Mu Nee (Cho Yi Hyun) in 2022 accidentally communicate with each other through an old radio. Cho Yi Hyun plays the role of Mu Nee, a college student in 2022 who communicates with Kim Yong beyond time in the movie.

On this day, when Cho Yi Hyun talked about her usual view of love, she said, “I don’t tend to fall in love with someone at first sight. But dating a male friend is unacceptable,” she said. “Friendship comes before love. Once I see someone as my friend, if they show any intention of courting me, I will think of it as a betrayal. I think it’s a break in our friendship,” she explained.

She continued, “I’ve had discussions about this matter with my friends, but no one sympathized with me. They said, ‘Is that a crime that a person likes a person?’ So I said, ‘It is! How can you love a friend?’”

When asked what the drawbacks of dating a male friend are, Cho Yi Hyun said, “Friendship is less likely to break than love.” She explained, “I accept that if I choose love while continuing my friendship, I choose something that has a high probability of being broken. If I become lovers with a friend I have known my whole life and then break up, it seems like we will become strangers. So to me, dating a male friend is a betrayal itself.”

She added, “If it had been me, I would not have had unrequited love for 7 years, and I would not have been able to have my heart broken or become close to the pattern like in ‘Ditto’.”
