In an August 19 episode titled “SM’s Gem vs. CUBE’s Gem” on the YouTube show The Appraiser (감별사), Hyoyeon joined i-dle ’s Shuhua for an open and playful chat about dance, MBTI personalities, and their honest approaches to life and performance.
When asked about her MBTI, Hyoyeon revealed she is an ISTP and emphasized her strong “T” (Thinking) tendencies. “People want empathy, but I just give them the answer — like, don’t do that,” she said with a laugh. Shuhua, noticing the resemblance to her own group leader Jeon Soyeon, asked whether Hyoyeon’s bluntness ever hurt those around her.

Unapologetically, Hyoyeon responded, “I don’t care if they get hurt or not. It’s not like what I said is wrong.” The conversation took a lighter turn when Hyoyeon was asked to name the best idol dancer in the industry. Without hesitation, she chose BLACKPINK’s Lisa. “She dances so well. I think she’s the top,” she said, praising Lisa’s performance and precision.
However, Hyoyeon added that her personal No.1 dancer is Kyoka, a standout contestant from Street Woman Fighter. “This is my first time saying it, but I once watched a video of Kyoka competing, and I even copied her performance at my solo concert. I was a total fan,” Hyoyeon admitted.
When Shuhua confessed she wasn’t familiar with Kyoka, Hyoyeon playfully teased her: “I could tell you didn’t know. I should keep asking until you admit it. Have you seen any of the challenges I’ve done?” Shuhua recalled the “DESSERT” challenge, prompting Hyoyeon to laugh and say, “That was like five years ago! What have you been doing with your life?”
Shuhua jokingly replied that she doesn’t use her phone much and doesn’t even watch The Appraiser. The production staff added to the humor, saying, “She just lies around,” to which Shuhua responded with a grin, “What matters is living in the moment,” drawing laughter from everyone on set.
Hyoyeon’s honesty and wit, combined with her deep respect for fellow dancers like Lisa and Kyoka, once again showcased her position as a veteran idol who knows talent when she sees it—and isn’t afraid to speak her mind.
