On the January 19 episode of the YouTube show “Donghaemul and Baekdu Eunhyuk,” Girls’ Generation’s Hyoyeon candidly spoke about internal conflicts within the group and her long-standing desire to form a subunit with fellow member Yuri.
When Donghae asked whether Girls’ Generation members ever fought, Hyoyeon replied, “We really don’t fight much. Some girl groups do, and I think that’s understandable. We tend to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. But if you had to pick the one who fights most… it would probably be me.”
She then opened up about the biggest fight they had, which involved her arriving late to a rehearsal. “We were supposed to start, but because of me, we couldn’t. That put us in a tight spot—not just within the group but even with the broadcasting station. I ended up causing some trouble,” she said.

Explaining further, Hyoyeon shared, “I was coming back from Yongpyeong Ski Resort, and the car took a wrong turn. I had to call another car, which delayed me. I apologized to the station, but not to the members. I thought they’d be understanding—it wasn’t like I wanted to be late. It was an accident.”
However, the members were upset because, as Hyoyeon acknowledged, “At the end of the day, it was work. And I didn’t treat it that way.” She then admitted to being unaware of the tension at first: “I cheerfully said, ‘Let’s go, we’ve got this!’ but two of the members pulled me aside and said now wasn’t the time, and that I should apologize. So I did.”
Donghae playfully commented, “Isn’t saying sorry the first thing you should do when you walk in?” to which Hyoyeon jokingly replied, “I guess I wasn’t taught properly. That’s on me.” The moment drew laughs and showed her honest, reflective nature.

Hyoyeon also shared a personal regret—never getting to form a unit with Yuri, something she had always envisioned. “I had this picture in my head of a duo like Super Junior-D&E. I even talked to people at the airport about it,” she said.
Eunhyuk chimed in, recalling, “You and Yuri used to say, ‘We’d love to do something together. How do we make it happen?’” But despite the enthusiasm, the plan never materialized. “When I first asked Yuri, she turned it down because she was filming a drama,” Hyoyeon revealed. “Later, when I was busy and she was free, she’d say, ‘Let’s do it now,’ so we just kept missing the right timing.”
