Former Hyokyung, previously active in the girl group ARIAZ, has drawn attention after sharing a series of claims about the K-pop industry through her personal YouTube channel.
In a video uploaded in April, Hyokyung reflected on her experiences as an idol trainee and debuting member, while also commenting on what she described as “unseen structures” behind idol group promotions.
Hyokyung stated that the center position in some girl groups was not always determined by popularity or performance ability. “There were cases where the center was chosen due to a relationship with the agency’s representative,” she claimed, suggesting that internal company dynamics could influence member positioning.
She added that such situations were “more common in smaller agencies,” noting that fans would often be unaware of the reasoning behind certain lineup decisions.
Beyond lineup controversies, Hyokyung also spoke about financial struggles during her idol career. She claimed that after 2.5 years of activity, her first settlement statement showed debt rather than profit, as training costs, accommodation, food, and production expenses were allegedly charged back to the members.

She further stated that she was not given full control over career opportunities, including being unable to pursue an acting offer due to agency decisions.
Hyokyung described her experience in the industry as restrictive, saying: “There were too many things I couldn’t decide for myself. Idols are treated less like professionals and more like property.”
She emphasized that she hesitated to speak out but ultimately decided to share her story to prevent similar experiences for others.

Hyokyung debuted in 2019 as a member of ARIAZ under Rising Entertainment, a subsidiary of Star Empire. The group later went on hiatus and ultimately disbanded in 2022 following various controversies, including school bullying allegations involving a member.
She also previously appeared on JTBC’s survival program Mix Nine, gaining early attention before her official debut.
While Hyokyung did not name specific individuals or agencies involved in her claims, her statements have sparked renewed discussion online about transparency, trainee contracts, and internal decision-making within the K-pop industry.
