Hyeri’s Past Scandals Resurface: Disrespecting Girls’ Generation and BEAST? 

After the relationship of Ryu Jun-yeol and Han So-hee was revealed, Ryu Jun-yeol’s ex-girlfriend, Hyeri, suddenly became a central figure. In particular, the dating news between Ryu Jun-yeol and Han So-hee wasn’t that serious, but Hyeri’s unfollowing Ryu Jun-yeol and publishing a story with the caption “Interesting” has led to various speculations.

In particular, many people have analyzed the “dating timeline” of Ryu Jun-yeol and Han So-hee, and some even speculated that the couple started to date each other while Ryu Jun-yeol was still in a relationship with Hyeri. 

As a result, while Hyeri is receiving a lot of support following the aforementioned relationship reveal, many also accused the female star of being “cunning”, knowingly exacerbating the situation. Past scandals of Hyeri, especially those regarding her attitude, are thus being brought up. 

Accordingly, Hyeri faced criticism for arrogant and disrespectful behavior towards colleagues in the industry in the past. Below is a summary of her past “attitude scandal”. 

Attitude controversies towards senior idols 

In 2016, Hyeri and other members of her group, Girl’s Day, drew criticism for their rude and disinterested behavior towards male MC Choi Koon on a AfreecaTV broadcast. During filming, they disregarded Choi Koon’s questions and focused solely on the food on the table. 

Hyeri, in particular, displayed an indifferent and even rude attitude towards the male MC during their conversation. The incident led to harsh backlash against Girl’s Day – Hyeri’s group at the time – on social media, prompting them to publicly apologize to Choi Koon and the audience to quell the controversy.

Just a few months after the above situation, Hyeri once again faced criticism, this time for disrespecting fellow K-pop girl group Girls’ Generation. In particular, when Girls’ Generation was announced as the winner on a music program, Hyeri made a dissatisfied expression as if disagree with the result.

Prior to this, in 2014, Hyeri faced strong backlash from fans of boy group Beast (now known as HIGHLIGHT) and issued an apology for disrespectful behavior. At the time, she was accused of mocking BEAST member Dongwoon at the Melon Music Awards. 

Particularly, in a video shared online, Hyeri deliberately imitated Dongwoon when he said, “Hello, we are Beast,” on stage. She continued to joke and mimic him, leading criticism about her “disrespect” towards a senior group. 

On top of this, even Hyeri’s apology video for the situation was condemned by netizens, who found Hyeri’s words and actions “insincere”. 

Intentionally throwing shade at Ryu Jun-yeol and Han So-hee

After Ryu Jun-yeol and Han So-hee’s dating rumor, Hyeri’s cryptic story and the action of unfollowing her ex-boyfriend have fueled suspicions that Ryu Jun-yeol cheated on Hyeri, fueling sympathy towards her. 

However, many netizens evaluate Hyeri’s ambiguous actions amidst rumors of her ex’s new relationship as uncouth, even calling the female star “overly cunning”. According to these people, Hyeri knew her action would draw attention, and utilized this to transfer hatred to Ryu Jun-yeol and Han So-hee, exacerbating an otherwise normal dating news. 

Hyeri is the “instigator” that stirs up the love triangle drama with Ryu Jun-yeol and Han So-hee, many people believed.

On the other hand, after kicking-off an entire fiasco regarding her ex’s new relationship, Hyeri remained silent. Two days later, her agency released a statement about Hyeri’s “Interesting” Instagram story, which simply reads “We have nothing to say about her post.” 

After “stirring up” trouble in her ex’s new relationship, Hyeri has been silent for the past days.
