Amidst the recent revelation that Girl's Day member-actress Hyeri purchased an old building in Gangnam, Seoul about 3 years ago and reconstructed it, a post causing malicious controversy is spreading online, raising concerns
It was reported on April 7th that Hyeri, under the name of a corporation she founded, purchased a four-story building with a land area of 245.3㎡ (74.2 pyeong) in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul in December 2020.
Hyeri is estimated to have paid about 4.39 billion won for the land value of the aged building, which had been constructed over 20 years ago. According to the real estate industry, Hyeri paid the full balance on March 30th of the following year and obtained a reconstruction permit a month later, commencing construction in June that year.
The reconstructed building, after completion, has a total floor area of 499.88㎡ (151.21 pyeong), and approval for its use was obtained in May 2022.
After the construction was completed, Hyeri signed a collateral trust with Hana Asset Trust and transferred her ownership. This is believed to be a choice aimed at reducing costs and increasing the loan limit.
Accordingly, the current market value of the building and land is expected to be more than 7.5 billion won. Although the profit is estimated to be 3 billion won, according to officials, considering acquisition taxes, construction costs and other factors, the profit is not significant.
This news has sparked discussions among netizens, but one post that distorted the issue negatively has stirred controversy.
Despite the fact that the title or content of the article related to Hyeri’s reconstruction issue did not contain the term “real estate speculation”, the provocative keywords “Setting up a family company and purchasing a building in Gangnam” and “Typical real estate speculation controversy” were included in the post’s title.
As criticism mounted against the netizen who distorted the title, the netizen responded, “Isn’t it common for celebrities to set up corporations and purchase real estate to build buildings?“
Meanwhile, Hyeri debuted with Girl’s Day in 2010 and appeared in dramas such as “Reply 1988”, “Two Cops”, “Miss Lee” and “May I Help You?”. She is currently preparing for the release of the movie “Victory” and is in the midst of filming the new movie “Tropical Night”.
