On May 22, Hyeri talked with actress Park Kyung-hye on her YouTube channel about experiences of fainting. When Park Kyung-hye asked if she had ever passed out, Hyeri replied, “If you search ‘Hyeri fainting,’ it comes up.” Hyeri then recalled the day she collapsed after a music show performance.

According to Hyeri, she had filmed curling for Idol Star Athletics Championships and returned home feeling extremely cold. She turned on her electric blanket and raised the temperature all the way up, but still could not stop feeling cold. She later went to the hospital, but because she had a music show schedule, there was discussion about whether she could perform or not. In the end, she received an IV drip, skipped rehearsal, and decided to only appear for the live broadcast.
Before going on stage, Hyeri said she remained lying down and felt unsure whether she could perform. “I was lying down thinking, ‘I don’t think I can do this,’ but then I went up,” she said.
During the performance, things became worse. Hyeri explained that while performing the first verse, there was a choreography move where she had to raise her arm. At that moment, she felt something happen in the back of her neck. “While doing that, the back of my neck went ‘ttudeuk,’ and after that, I don’t remember,” she shared.
Despite her condition, Hyeri finished the stage. She said her face was covered in sweat by the end and she could not even sing properly, but she kept thinking, “Let’s finish it until the end.” After the final pose, the tension finally disappeared. Hyeri said, “The ending was with our backs turned. When I sat down, my tension relaxed, and I felt like I was going to throw up. Then I lost consciousness.”

The incident happened in 2014, after Girl’s Day performed “Something” on a music show. At the time, Hyeri was taken to the hospital for treatment. Looking back, Hyeri said the experience happened more than 10 years ago and explained that she does not think of it as something admirable. “It’s not something cool. Everyone goes to work even when they’re sick. If it were now, I would say my body is too unwell and postpone it. But back then, I was in a team,” she said.
Her confession is now drawing attention again, showing the intense pressure idols faced to continue performing even when their bodies were clearly at their limit.
