HYBE, YG, and SM are in fierce competition to debut “big-scale” rookie groups

This year, the launch of rookie groups from major agencies HYBE, YG, and SM, is scheduled one after another.

4th generation idols, such as IVE, aespa, NewJeans, and LE SSERAFIM, have shown their strength in the girl group scene. Starting this year, however, “5th generation idols” are making their entrance, as major agencies are preparing for the debut of rookie groups.

HYBE subsidiary KOZ Entertainment, which is founded by Zico, will take its first step into the music industry on the 30th of June with the debut of BOYNEXTDOOR. With Zico participating in the production and the addition of HYBE’s infrastructure, the boy group is already drawing massive attention.

BOYNEXTDOOR, as the name suggests, aims to approach people naturally and comfortably. The group consists of six members, including Sungho, Riwoo, Jaehyun, Taesan, Leehan, and Woonhak, and will debut with the debut single “WHO!” and 3 title songs “But I Like You”, “One and Only”, and “Serenade”.

It is known that Pop Time, who produced songs like “TOMBOY,” “Any Song,” “Move,” and “New Thing”, participated as the main producer.

Meanwhile, YG is also preparing for the debut of BABYMONSTER, which is the company’s first girl group after BLACKPINK in seven years. YG also conducted the pre-debut show “Last Evaluation”, which showcases the debut process of BABYMONSTER. Through this, they confirmed a total of seven members: Ahyeon, Haram, Rora, Pharita, Chiquita, Ruka, and Asa, who are from Korea, Thailand, and Japan.

BABYMONSTER is preparing for their debut in the latter half of this year. Prior to this, on May 14th, BABYMONSTER released their pre-debut song, “DREAM,” which recorded 1st place in the U.S. Billboard Hot Trending Songs chart, proving the girl group’s strong presence even before their official debut.

On the other hand, SM is starting its full-fledged “SM 3.0: NEW IP 2023” strategy. On May 24th, Sungchan and Shotaro announced their departure from NCT, and are set to join a new SM boy group, which is scheduled to debut this year. With this, the new boy group will be SM’s first male group in about seven years since NCT’s debut in 2016. It is known that apart from Sungchan and Shotaro, Eunseok and Seunghan from SM Rookies will also be part of the debut lineup. Additionally, it is revealed that the new SM boy groups will include other members from Korea and the United States, raising expectations.
