HYBE Labels And JYP Might Be Most Negatively Influenced In KPOP After Universal Music Pulled Tunes From TikTok

Universal Music Group (UMG) is expected to remove the music catalog from TikTok starting from January 31 (local time) after unsuccessful extension negotiations with TikTok regarding fair compensation and AI protection.

This has a big impact on KPOP artists collaborating with Universal Music Group as TikTok now contributes significantly to a song becoming viral and reaching a wider audience.

In particular, HYBE Labels previously became a partner with UMG, so all artists under HYBE will likely have their music removed from TikTok. JYP also cooperates with Republic Record, a record label under UMG. Some netizens also presume that their music section will also be removed from TikTok.

Besides, there are a number of other Kpop artists who might also be affected, such as BLACKPINK, (G)I-DLE, TRI•BE, Jeon Somi, etc and even artists releasing music in Japan through UMG.

However, many other netizens believe that the collaboration between KPOP companies and UMG should not be considered in this situation and these companies can directly negotiate to keep their music on TikTok.
