On August 6, HYBE and Geffen announced their second joint girl group endeavor, following the formation of KATSEYE. The project will kick off with global auditions, starting in Japan, and will culminate in a 2026 debut after months of K-pop-style training adapted for the U.S. market.
Fans initially expressed excitement after the PRELUDE X account introduced Emily, an alumna from The Debut: Dream Academy, as the first person associated with the project.
However, things took a sharp turn after rumors began circulating on online forums that Samara, a Brazilian finalist from the same survival show, may also be rejoining HYBE as part of this new endeavor.
Why Samara Is a Controversial Pick
During Dream Academy, Samara ranked 7th, just missing the final cut for KATSEYE. While many attributed this to stiff competition, others pointed to a controversy involving her TikTok account, where she allegedly liked or shared questionable content related to Palestine and Indian communities.
