The reason why teenagers nowadays know about Seo Tai-ji, who debuted in 1992, is very unexpected.
On Dec 2nd, on singer Rain‘s YouTube “Season B Season”, a video titled “Not 30but dirty sexy, from dancing to talking! Street Woman Fighter’s Hook Aiki Season B Season EP.62” was posted. In the released video, Rain met the dance crew Hook, where famous dancer Aiki belongs, and asked the members, “What is the most memorable dance in your life so far?”
When Aiki replied to Rain’s question, “The biggest shock in my life was the dance of Seo Tae-ji’s ‘Ultraman’,” the other Hook members tilted their heads as if they didn’t understand what she meant. Hook members were all born after 1999 except Aiki, and “I’m an Ultraman” was released in September 2000.
Surprised by this, Aiki asked the Hook members, “Don’t you know Seo Tae-ji?” and the members replied, “We know him well.” However, the reason why they said they knew Seo Tae-ji well was unexpected. Hook members answered that they knew him well because they saw him in the textbook in music class.
Rain was shocked by the answers of the Hook members and expressed his thoughts, saying, “For us, Seo Tai-ji is an object of respect and a legend.” Aiki also joined in to help, saying, “When I look at Seo Tai-ji, I think it’s so amazing that he boldly changed the dance trend at that time.”
Netizens who watched the video commented, “You might not understand unless you are from the Seo Tai-ji generation,” “Korean popular music has changed into before and after Seo Taiji,” “So you learned about Seo Taiji from a textbook,” and “Will we be alive by the time we learn about BTS from a textbook?”
