How LE SSERAFIM Incorporate Literature Into Their Music and Go Beyond Simple K-pop

LE SSERAFIM unveiled the tracklist of their 3rd mini-album ‘EASY’ on February 8th. The first track, ‘Good Bones,’ was pre-released on January 26th through the first album trailer, gathering attention with its intense narration such as “The world is cruel to everyone fairly / What’s left is just up to us.”

Global K-pop fans particularly noticed the title and message of ‘Good Bones.’ This song was inspired by the poem of the same name written by American poet Maggie Smith.

Even before detailed information about the song was released, fans began associating the narration of the poem with LE SSERAFIM’s storytelling, finding it intriguing.

LE SSERAFIM has consistently attempted to fuse music and literature since their debut. Songs that incorporate elements from well-known myths and fairy tales globally allow international listeners who encounter LE SSERAFIM for the first time to easily step into the group’s narrative.

The track ‘Eve, Psyche, and the Blue-bearded Wife,’ included in their first full album ‘UNFORGIVEN,’ released in May 2023, is inspired by classics and myths.

A new perspective interpreting the theme of the original work as ‘growth towards a new world’ was evident. ‘Fire in the Belly,’ also included in the same album, is a song that expresses the ambition to become the winner of adventures by igniting the passion inside like Pinocchio escaping from the belly of a whale.

This approach of LE SSERAFIM can also be found in the tracks of their debut album, such as ‘The Great Mermaid,’ a reinterpretation of the fairy tale ‘The Little Mermaid,’ and ‘Sour Grapes,’ inspired by Aesop’s fable ‘The Fox and the Sour Grapes.’

Music inspired by literature has been recognized as LE SSERAFIM’s differentiating factor, firmly establishing their unique color in the global music market.

Especially ‘Eve, Psyche, and the Blue-bearded Wife’ and ‘Sour Grapes,’ despite not being title tracks of the albums, have gained immense popularity, accumulating over 100 million streams on Spotify.

LE SSERAFIM has continued to incorporate these literary elements into their 3rd mini-album ‘EASY,’ which will be released on February 19th at 6 p.m. KST. On February 13th, the highlight medley of ‘EASY’ will be released.
