Controversy to Potential to Expectation: Blackpink’s Jisoo Faces the Real Test of the ‘Actress Title’

Jisoo confirmed her appearance in ‘Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint’ last month.

Based on the popular Naver web novel of the same name, ‘Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint‘ follows the journey of Kim Dok-ja (played by Ahn Hyo-seop), who, like the serialized novel, is the only one who knows the ending in a reality on the brink of destruction. He embarks on an adventure with the protagonist of the novel, Yoo Jung-hyuk (played by Lee Min-ho), to save the world.

In ‘Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint,’ which garnered attention for its casting of Ahn Hyo-seop and Lee Min-ho, Jisoo joins Lee Ji-hye, a colleague who overcomes many crises with Yoo Jung-hyuk with remarkable combat skills, adding to Kim Dok-ja’s journey.

Before her debut, Jisoo made a special appearance in the drama ‘Producer,’ and after debuting with Blackpink in 2016, she made her official drama debut in 2021 with JTBC’s ‘Snowdrop’ after her special appearance in ‘Arthdal Chronicles’ in 2019.

In ‘Snowdrop,’ Jisoo portrayed the adorable English major Yeon and freshman Eun-young, showcasing her unique innocent appearance, which was praised for perfectly expressing poignant love stories amidst surveillance and crises in the 1980s.

However, she faced harsh scrutiny for her awkward expressions and relatively inaccurate pronunciation, as she prepared for her demanding leading role.

Her next acting venture was in the movie ‘Dr. Cheon and Lost Talisman,’ released in September last year.

In her debut film appearance in ‘Dr. Cheon and Lost Talisman,’ Jisoo made a surprise appearance as a fairy, captivating audiences with her presence despite her short screen time and seamlessly blending into the story.

Director Kim Sung-sik cast Jisoo, saying, “I’ve been watching Jisoo since she appeared in ‘Snowdrop,’ and as I was looking for an actress suitable for the fairy image, Jisoo came to mind.”

Jisoo also expressed, “‘Dr. Cheon and Lost Talisman’ was a very special experience for me.”

While enjoying top-tier popularity with Blackpink and continuing her activities as a singer at the peak, Jisoo has faced various situations from controversies regarding her acting skills, which she didn’t intend to pursue, to praise and potential, as she embarks on her acting career.

As Jisoo enters her 9th year since debut, all eyes are on her acting journey as she may establish herself not only as ‘Blackpink’s Jisoo’ but also as ‘Actress Jisoo’ through ‘View of the Reader,’ marking a new turning point in her career.
