On July 20, the YouTube channel Kim Ddol-ddol released a vlog titled “Discovering Hidden Gems Abroad: Double Gay Singapore Trip 🇸🇬”. The video followed Hong Seok-cheon and content creator Kim Ddol-ddol, co-hosts of the YouTube show Hong Seok-cheon’s Jewel Box, as they explored Singapore’s nightlife and LGBTQ+ scene.
The duo visited several gay bars and clubs throughout the episode. In one bar, local fans enthusiastically greeted them, to which they responded, “There are a lot of Jewel Box fans here,” expressing surprise and gratitude at their growing international popularity.
As the night progressed, a humorous moment emerged when Kim Ddol-ddol shared, “Seok-cheon sunbae disappeared from the gay bar, so I went looking for him—turns out he was outside chatting with some guys. I thought he went to the bathroom.” Footage showed Hong Seok-cheon warmly interacting with local men outside the venue, highlighting his approachable personality.
The atmosphere was further energized by popular K-pop hits such as 2NE1’s “I Am the Best” and BIGBANG’s “BANG BANG BANG”, reinforcing the global reach of Korean pop culture.
On their way back to the hotel, Hong reflected humorously on his night: “I’ve come to realize that being popular means nothing. I took photos with so many people, followed them back on social media, and yet I’m heading back alone,” he laughed, adding, “This is how my Friday night ends.”
Hong Seok-cheon, who debuted in 1995 through the KBS College Comedy Festival, made history in 2000 by becoming the first Korean celebrity to publicly come out as a sexual minority. His candidness and continued advocacy have made him a beloved figure both domestically and internationally.
