Hong Sang Soo and Kim Min Hee, “cheating couple” confident overseas but avoid Korea
Movie director Hong Sang Soo and actress Kim Min Hee, who have been dating for 8 years, seem to be avoiding Korean events.
According to News1 and OSEN on March 28th, Hong Sang Soo and Kim Min Hee will not attend the press preview of the movie “in water”, which will be held at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul on April 3rd.
The movie “in water”, which is set to release on April 12th, was officially invited to the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival’s Encounters section last February, where it had its world premiere. At that time, Hong Sang Soo and Kim Min Hee attended the Berlin International Film Festival together, meeting the audience and discussing the film.
Before their visit to Berlin, they attended a retrospective of director Hong Sang Soo held at the Cinémathèque Française in Paris, France. At that time, the couple appeared in similar outfits, and after the event, they drew attention as they walked the streets of Paris, leaning on each other in affectionate poses.
While the couple openly shows their love during their overseas schedules, they are cautious and not attending any event in Korea.
The last time Hong Sang Soo and Kim Min Hee met with the Korean press was at the preview of the 2017 film “On the Beach at Night Alone”, where they acknowledged their romantic relationship. It was known that director Hong Sang Soo entered his extramarital affair with Kim Min Hee and cheated on his wife while working on the movie, “Right Now, Wrong Then”.
At the time, regarding their inappropriate relationship, the couple said, “We cherish our encounter and love each other wholeheartedly.”
However, since Hong Sang Soo has not divorced and still has a legal wife, it seems that the couple avoid making appearances in Korea altogether. Hong Sang Soo filed for divorce mediation with his wife, whom he married in 1985, in the Seoul Family Court in November 2016, but the attempt fell through due to his wife’s position of “not wanting a divorce.”
Afterward, he filed a divorce lawsuit, but the court dismissed it, stating, “Hong Sang Soo and his wife’s marital relationship have reached a breaking point, but the primary responsibility lies with Hong Sang Soo, and it is not a case where divorce claims can be exceptionally permitted.”
Meanwhile, “in water” is a work depicting the story of Sung Mo (played by Shin Seok Ho), who decides to make a movie with his own money. Kim Min Hee participated in the work as both an actress and a production director.
