Heo Chanmi, known for her long and turbulent journey across K-pop and trot music scenes, is once again drawing public attention after emotional revelations shared on TV Chosun’s variety program Dad and Me.

The April 15 broadcast highlighted not only Heo Chanmi’s current life as a trot singer and former idol trainee, but also the deep emotional struggles she and her family endured throughout her career.

Heo Chanmi first entered the entertainment industry at a young age, training for approximately six years under SM Entertainment. She was once associated with the highly competitive “Girls’ Generation debut lineup” period, drawing attention as one of the trainees considered for major girl group projects.

However, despite years of preparation, her debut did not come easily. She eventually debuted in 2010 as part of the mixed-gender group Co-Ed School, but the group’s promotions were short-lived. Later, she re-debuted with F-ve Dolls, yet continued instability in management and training conditions led to further setbacks, including being moved back into trainee status.

One of the most impactful moments in the episode came from Heo Chanmi’s mother, who emotionally recalled the difficult years her daughter faced amid repeated career uncertainty and online criticism.

She revealed that Heo Chanmi was deeply affected by harsh public reactions and emotional pressure during her idol years, saying her daughter at one point struggled to cope with life due to accumulated stress and malicious comments.

The family admitted that watching her endure such hardship left them heartbroken, and at times they even wished she would step away from the entertainment industry to protect her well-being.

Despite the pain, Heo Chanmi’s parents ultimately chose to support her dreams. Her father shared that although it was difficult to see his daughter go through repeated setbacks, he encouraged her to continue pursuing her passion if it was truly her calling.

He expressed hope that she would eventually achieve the success she worked so long for, emphasizing belief in her perseverance despite the difficult path.

Her journey from idol trainee to trot competitor has often been described as a “resilience story,” marked by constant reinvention and determination.

Heo Chanmi’s latest appearance reinforces her image as a “never-give-up artist,” with many fans expressing support for her continued growth and healing journey.
