Chinese social media is abuzz with heated discussions surrounding He Chaolian (Laurinda Ho), daughter of late Macau casino tycoon Stanley Ho, following rumors that she allegedly pressured her husband, actor Dou Xiao, to sign a 28-page prenuptial agreement.

According to viral posts on Weibo, after their lavish wedding, the Ho family reportedly insisted that Dou Xiao sign a legal document outlining asset protection and income-sharing clauses. Sources claimed the actor refused to sign the extensive contract, resulting in the couple still not having officially registered their marriage.

Although unverified, the rumor has fueled widespread criticism against He Chaolian. Many netizens flooded her personal page with harsh comments, calling her “calculative” and accusing her of “scheming from the start.” One post read, “If she was going to distrust him from the beginning, why spend so much of his savings on the wedding?”

Others defended Dou Xiao, saying he “invested all his family’s savings into the wedding” and accusing He Chaolian of being overly cautious. Meanwhile, some netizens argued that Dou Xiao had knowingly married into a powerful family and was now facing the inevitable consequences of that social gap.

Amid the uproar, He Chaolian has remained silent. Her WeChat profile photo still features a man hugging a woman believed to be her and Dou Xiao which many fans interpret as a sign that their relationship remains strong despite the controversy.
The hashtag “He Chaolian’s profile picture” quickly climbed to the #1 spot on Weibo Hot Search on October 22, amassing over 1.2 million views and comments.

Dou Xiao has also chosen to stay silent. However, a former classmate recently spoke up to defend him, saying the actor is financially independent and discreet, dismissing speculation that he was “after He Chaolian’s fortune.” Friends of the couple also described Dou Xiao as humble, hardworking, and scandal-free throughout his career.

Still, the stark economic and social contrast between the two has caused Dou Xiao to be unfairly labeled as “the weaker partner” in public discussions.

The couple’s love story began at a dinner party. In April 2019, a video of them kissing in an elevator leaked online, prompting the pair to confirm their relationship.

Throughout their courtship, they were frequently seen traveling together and supporting each other on film sets. Dou Xiao even took time off work to accompany He Chaolian to Hong Kong and assist her during her father’s funeral. In return, she adopted a more traditional look long black hair to please her partner’s family.

They tied the knot in a grand Bali wedding in April 2023, with Dou Xiao personally overseeing the design, floral arrangements, and venue details. However, despite the dreamy ceremony, their marriage has been overshadowed by continuous rumors including recent speculation of a divorce circulating in 2025.

Dou Xiao, born in 1988 in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, comes from a well-off family. He moved to Canada at age 10 and later returned to China to attend the Beijing Film Academy. Discovered by Zhang Yimou, he rose to fame through the film Under the Hawthorn Tree, and went on to star in Dangerous Liaisons, The Legend of Chu Qiao, and Battle of Memories.

Before He Chaolian, Dou Xiao was romantically linked to several women from wealthy families, including Cheng Xiaoyue, whose parents are prominent business figures, and Ouyang Nana, daughter of a Taiwanese politician.

He Chaolian, born in 1991, is the daughter of Stanley Ho and his third wife, Angela Leong. She graduated with honors in the UK before launching her own business ventures. On social media, she boasts over 600,000 Instagram followers and 1.7 million fans on Weibo.
