“Hangout with Yoo” Yoo Jae-seok must be tired too, still at the same place despite trying to change

Even after recruiting new members, “Hangout with Yoo” is suffering.

On Sep 3rd, MBC’s entertainment program “Hangout with Yoo” returned from a three-week hiatus. The show ambitiously restarted with a new variety format called “YOONIVERSE” where it raises the motto “What do you do when you play? Please bother us” and asks people to bother Yoo Jae-seok

However, the ratings have been on the decline despite new changes throughout 3 seasons, including season 1, when Yoo Jae-seok hosted alone, season 2, when Jung Joon-ha, Haha, Shin Bong-sun, and Lee Mi-joo joined, and season 3, when Lee Yi-kyung and Park Jin-joo joined.

Although Lee Yi-kyung and Park Jin-joo newly joined the team, they harmonized well and showed off their great chemistry with existing members. However, many voice their regret that there is a lack of novelty because the show consists of members from “Infinite Challenge” and “Sixth Sense,” who are already familiar faces alongside Yoo Jae-seok.

These regrets were reflected in the ratings. Based on Nielsen Korea, a ratings research company, the latest episode of “Hangout with Yoo” recorded 4.8%. Compared to the highest viewer rating of 8.2%, the rating has halved.

“Hangout with Yoo” is constantly trying to make changes, but it doesn’t seem easy. Attention is being paid to whether “Hangout with Yoo” will be able to gain back its glory with the new format.
