‘Hangout With Yoo’ Criticized For Making Cameo Appearance In ‘My Dearest’ And Copying ‘Infinite Challenge’ Content
“Hangout With Yoo” cast received negative reactions for their cameo appearance in “My Dearest”
MBC’s “Hangout With Yoo” broadcast of October 14th revealed behind the scenes of Yoo Jae-suk, Haha, Joo Woo-jae, Park Jin-ju, Lee Yi-kyung, and Lee Mi-joo taking on the acting challenge through MBC’s Fri-Sat drama “My Dearest”. The six members played the role of farmers who were taken as prisoners.
It is known that the production team of “My Dearest” revised the script and added lines for Yoo Jae-suk and Haha. Haha confidently said, “We actually have experience with this”. Recalling when they made a cameo appearance in a drama while doing “Infinite Challenge” in 2008, Yoo Jae-suk said, “I also tried acting in a historical drama. We appeared in ‘Lee San, Wind of the Palace’ in the past.”
Joo Woo-jae commented, “You didn’t act well in ‘Lee San’, right?”. Yoo Jae-suk refuted, saying “What do you mean by saying it was bad? Myung-soo hyung didn’t do well, but we did a great job”.
Starring “Hangout With Yoo” members, episode 12 of “My Dearest” aired on the same day. It recorded a rating of 9.5% in Seoul and 9.3% nationwide with a real-time peak of 11.3%. The drama also topped the rating charts of dramas of the same broadcasting time on all channels, Fri-Sat dramas on all channels, and the 2049 rating rankings.
However, unlike the good rating performance, viewers poured unfavorable reviews on the cameo appearance of “Hangout With Yoo” members on the bulletin board of “My Dearest”. Many people pointed out that the members’ acting broke their immersion in the drama. Some complained, “I like Yoo Jae-suk, but I couldn’t focus on the story”, “Their appearance was not helpful for the drama at all”, “It was such a bad setting that provided no help to the development of the drama”, etc.
Fans of “Hangout With Yoo” also pointed out that the program’s production team was repeating the content of the famous show “Infinite Challenge” in the past. Many said they immediately thought of “Lee San” upon hearing the news of “Hangout With Yoo” cast’s cameo appearance in “My Dearest”.
Airing the first episode in July 2019, “Hangout With Yoo” is the first program that PD Kim Tae-ho and Yoo Jae-suk introduced after “Infinite Challenge” ended. After PD Kim Tae-ho left MBC, PD Park Chang-hoon was in charge of directing “Hangout With Yoo”. Due to a series of low ratings, the production team decided to change the PD to Kim Jin-young and Jang Woo-sung.
Nevertheless, viewers continued to discover similarities between the two entertainment programs. The lack of ideas and freshness in content is still a serious problem that “Hangout With Yoo” needs to solve.
