Veteran actor Han Suk-kyu has made a remarkable return to TVN after 35 years, starring in the highly anticipated drama Shin’s Project. Transforming into a chicken shop owner with a mysterious past, Han Suk-kyu’s character serves as a conflict resolver in everyday disputes, earning praise for his engaging performance and fresh image.

Premiering in September, Shin’s Project follows the story of a former legendary negotiator who now runs a chicken restaurant. The protagonist navigates between legal loopholes and ethical boundaries to solve cases, becoming a hero for justice in modern society.

Directed by Shin Kyung-soo, known for his work on SBS dramas Six Flying Dragons and Secret Door, the series showcases his signature tight storytelling. Shin Kyung-soo commented on the drama’s appeal, saying, “It reflects real-life situations where people struggle to communicate and understand each other. Through this drama, we hope to offer comfort to viewers dealing with frustration or injustice.” He added that the everyday conflicts depicted in the series allowed for natural storytelling and smooth actor interactions without excessive dramatization.

For Han Suk-kyu, this marks his first appearance in a TVN drama since his debut in 1990. Known for serious roles in Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim and other projects, Han Suk-kyu surprised fans by showing a lighter, comedic side in this series, further enhancing the drama’s charm.
The actor described his character, Shin Sa-jang, as “outwardly cheerful and humorous, but with a darker side. I wanted to explore the importance of emotional control and communication in our society, which seems to have lost its way in that regard.”
Director Shin Kyung-soo shared that working with Han Suk-kyu was a joyous experience, highlighting their similar approaches to character interpretation and expression.

Shin’s Project started strong with 5.9% ratings, peaking at 7.3% early on. The final episode recorded 8.6%, with the highest moment hitting 9.9%, marking a successful conclusion to the 12-episode series (Nielsen Korea). The story concluded with characters finding resolution in their personal and professional lives, leaving viewers eagerly anticipating a potential season 2.
Supporting actors Bae Hyun-sung, Lee Re, and Kim Sung-oh contributed to the drama’s depth, while special appearances by actors like Kim Dong-jun hinted at the continuation of Shin Sa-jang’s story.
With its compelling mix of humor, mystery, and heartwarming conflict resolution, Shin’s Project not only showcased Han Suk-kyu’s versatility but also solidified the drama as one of TVN’s standout projects of the year.
