Han So-hee Boldly Responses To Japanese Haters Criticizing ‘Gyeongseong Creature’, “Sad But True”
Han So-hee is starring in Netflix’s original series “Gyeongseong Creature”, which premiered on December 22nd. Set in Spring 1945 during the darkest era, this drama depicts the story of two young people who confront the monster born out of greed to survive. Based on the Japanese Army’s biological experiment Unit 731, the content is drawing keen attention.
Because of that, Han So-hee has been harshly criticized by Japanese netizens ever since the drama was released. Although it is the fact that innocent people in not only Korea but also many other countries suffered huge damage and deaths due to the crimes of the Japanese Army at that time, Japanese netizens are pouring criticism towards the drama based on the true story and the actors instead of feeling shameful about the atrocities of their ancestors.
In particular, many haters have terrorized the SNS account of the lead actress Han So-hee with malicious comments.
Ignoring the hateful comments, Han So-hee released several still cuts of “Gyeongseong Creature” with a picture of Korean independence activist Ahn Jung-geun and said, “It’s a story about the people of the splendid yet dark time when they were fighting against the monster born in the experiment on human, not the romance in Gyeongseong nor the creature in the Japanese colonial era. The spring of that year, when people had to embrace each other with love”.
Some Japanese haters complained, “She’s against Japan”, “She didn’t take into account the feelings of Japanese people”, “I’m disappointed”, etc. In response to a comment saying “I want to watch the drama but as a Japanese, I need to take courage”, Han So-hee replied, “Sad but true. Thank you for your courage anyway”.
For a global star like Han So-hee, Japan is one of the biggest markets that may affect her career. However, she confidently expressed her belief as a Korean citizen instead of a celebrity. Korean netizens supported the actress, saying “You’re so cool”, “I fell for you once again”, etc.
