Han Seo-hee’s first appeal trial: Smile and greet acquaintances sitting in the audience seat
The first appeal trial was held on March 15th against former singer trainee Han Seo-hee (27, female, unemployed), who was accused of taking drugs during the probation period.
The Suwon District Court’s Criminal Division 3-2 (Chief Judge Jin Se-ri) held the first appeal trial against Han, who was indicted on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act. Previously, Han Seo-hee was sentenced to one year and six months and arrested in court at the first trial held in November last year.
Han filed an appeal on the grounds of facts, legal principles and unfair sentencing.
Han‘s lawyer revealed the reason for her appeal, “Han has never taken methamphetamine. Some of the prosecution’s charges have not been specified, and the sentence is unfair.”
The lawyer added, “Han has been claiming her innocence from lower trials. In addition, due to COVID-19, normal interviews with Han were almost impossible, so we could not discuss whether to submit an additional list of evidence.”
On the contrary, the prosecution requested the court to dismiss Han‘s appeal.
Han, an unconvicted prisoner, appeared in court wearing black plain clothes that day.
Han was also caught smiling and greeting her acquaintances, who were sitting in the audience seat, while the trial was underway.
Previously, Han was accused of purchasing 9 grams of marijuana 4 times and smoking marijuana 7 times at her home in Jung-gu, Seoul from July 2016 to December 2016. After that, she was sentenced to 3 years in prison, 4 years of probation, an additional fine of 870,000 won and a 120-hour drug treatment lecture.
However, she was detained at the probation office for 20 days after a urine test of her at the probation office under the Ministry of Justice on July 7th, 2020 tested positive for substances such as methamphetamine and amphetamine.
Accordingly, Han was sentenced to one year and six months in prison after several interrogations and lower trials conducted at the Suwon District Court’s Seongnam Branch.
Han even cursed at the judge as if she could not accept the court’s sentence of imprisonment.
The second appeal trial against Han is scheduled to be held on April 8th.
