Singer/actor Hwang Chan-sung (2PM) got criticized for his acting skill.
Hwang Chan-sung is meeting viewers as Han Jung-won, the younger brother of Han Sun-joo (Song Yoon-ah), in the currently airing channel A’s Monday-Tuesday drama “Show Window: The Queen’s House” (hereinafter referred to as “Show Window”).” “Show Window” is a romantic melodrama about the story of a woman (Song Yoon-ah) who cheered for an affair without knowing that she was the woman of her husband.
The drama is evaluated as having a lot of things to appreciate by featuring a large number of skilled actors, without any so-called “acting blackholes”, such as Song Yoon-ah, Lee Sung-jae, and Jeon So-min. On the other hand, after Hwang Chan-sung appeared, some viewers responded that his acting stood out in a bad way.
In the play, Han Jung-won, played by Hwang Chan-sung, is used by Yoon Mi-ra (Jeon So-min), who is having an affair with Han Sun-ju‘s husband Shin Myung-seop (Lee Sung-jae). In the last 7th and 8th episodes, Yoon Mi-ra deliberately approached her brother-in-law, Han Jung-won, to stimulate Shin Myung-seop. Han Jung-won, grew up as an illegitimate child and had many wounds which led to him even deciding to marry Yoon Mi-ra, who he came to believe that she was his fate.
His role and lines required a high level of emotional acting that had to ignite the strange tension between Song Yoon-ah, Lee Sung-jae, and Jeon So-min. However, he used a similar expression and tone every time in every scene where the range of emotions needed to increase. After proposing to Yoon Mi-ra, he couldn’t improve his awkward emotional acting when he needs to show anger after learning everything.
Viewers responded, “This show doesn’t seem to have any acting black hole, despite Hwang Chan-sung,” “He used to be criticized for his, and he still is,” “His acting is the same level as when he was in “High Kick”,” “It’s even more obvious because everyone beside him did so well,” “Emotional acting is a bit…” “His role is a bit more important than I thought, that’s why his emotional is so….”
On the other hand, “It’s not like the worst acting ever. I just watched it,” “It’s not a terribly bad acting. It just made me wonder for a bit,” “He did well in other dramas thou,” and “I thought his acting improved a lot. It was enough to just bury it.”
Meanwhile, Hwang Chan-sung confessed about his marriage and premarital pregnancy through his handwritten letter on Dec 15th. His wedding is expected to be as early as next year.
