The 4th episode of tvN’s program “Real or Reel”, which aired on May 16th, unveiled Goo Hye-sun’s daily life.
The actress shared, “I wasted too much money. After some bad things happened to me, my family became harmonious”, then a VCR was shown. In particular, the VCR Goo Hye-sun inside her car parked in the parking lot of her school in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul at 6:30 a.m. The actress showcased her most natural look with a puffy face inside her car parked outside under the December weather.
Introducing herself, Goo Hye-sun said, “I’m Goo Hye-sun, who has not acted for 7 years. Time flies so fast. I first entered Seoul Insitute of the Arts in 2003 but dropped out after six months. After working hard to make a living and being absent from school for nearly 10 years, I desired to return to school and was accepted to the Department of Imaging at Sungkyunkwan University in 2011. I studied there for 4 years. I’m 40 and 20 years older than the freshmen.”
Explaining the reasons she lived inside her car like a homeless person, the actress said, “I don’t have any place to live. I actually don’t have a home right now. My mother’s house is in Incheon and I keep going back and forth from there. On exams and important days, I stay in my own car or sleep in the library. Going from Incheon to school takes 3-4 hours so I have to leave home at 6:30 a.m. for classes that start at 9 a.m.”
Pointing out that living in dorms or gosiwon (study rooms) is inefficient, Goo Hye-sun said, “I used to live in a gosiwon in front of the school but my contract ended last semester. There was no place that would sign a three-month contract with me”. Goo Hye-sun mentioned another reason, saying “I thought, ‘Since I’m already here, why not try to be the No.1 in studying?’. I don’t accept things like being late or absent so I always arrive at school 2-3 hours early”.
Goo Hye-sun’s car is equipped with a sleeping mat and things that support her daily life. The actress surprised everyone when she revealed that she washed her face using wet tissues, ate cup noodles, instant rice, and snacks in the car, and took a bath in the school’s bathroom. She said, “I rarely wash up and can live well without shampoo. I take a bath using only one soap, then wash my face. There’s no need to use body wash. I only use lotion”. Hearing her story, MC Choi Daniel commented, “As a fellow actor, I worried about you”.
After that, Goo Hye-sun showed off her certification with almost perfect scores. Her competence was even recognized by the school professor. As a movie director with a lot of experience with film festival screenings and awards, the actress revealed that she had written many scripts and had works released on Netflix.
After finishing a day of work, Goo Hye-sun went back to school. Regarding the reason she was so dedicated to her studies, the actress said, “In a way, I was a successful daughter, but I also faced many failures. Their biggest dream is that I complete my studies and graduate.” In February, a graduation ceremony was finally held. Goo Hye-sun’s family appeared at the ceremony with bright faces. In addition, Goo Hye-sun proudly showed her certification for ranking in Top 5% of her department.
Later, Goo Hye-sun stunned her family with her surprising announcement, saying “I might not be able to work a lot. I want to pursue a doctor’s degree and it will take 7-8 years. Once I get the degree, I might do something different from what I’m doing now.”
