Actress Goo Hye Sun has released a second statement after facing backlash for remarks seen as targeting her ex-husband, actor Ahn Jae Hyun.
In particular, on August 9, Goo posted on her social media:
“P.S.: This statement is about events that occurred after the divorce settlement. I regret that some reports are blurring the main point by linking it to conflicts before the settlement.”
The day before, Goo published a long rant, criticizing repeated media headlines highlighting “5 years since the divorce” of her and Ahn Jae-hyun, calling it poor journalism. This is in response to Ahn Jae-hyun appearing on several TV and YouTube programs sharing his post-divorce life, prompting friends to offer public support.
In her rant, Goo Hye-sun stated that during the divorce process, conflicting claims were made but both parties agreed not to pursue the truth further, which she viewed as an implicit promise and moral duty. She also accused her ex-husband of making indirect and risky remarks in the same industry that could be linked to her, calling such behavior cowardly. She also urged entertainment programs not to provoke such topics, warning that it causes secondary harm.
Finally, Goo emphasized she wished Ahn would focus on his own identity and authenticity rather than referencing their past.
However, critics pointed out that Goo herself had discussed her divorce on past shows, labeling her stance as “hypocritical.” Thus, public reaction has been mixed, with some suggesting Goo appears unable to move on, while others urged both to go their separate ways.
Meanwhile Goo Hye Sun and Ahn Jae Hyun met during the 2015 KBS2 drama Blood, married in 2016, and divorced in 2020 after a high-profile and contentious split involving multiple public allegations.
