On July 3, MBC unveiled the first stills from its upcoming Friday-Saturday series A Bona Fide Killer, which is scheduled to premiere on July 31.

A Bona Fide Killer tells the story of a working mother who secretly holds one of the deadliest jobs in the world while struggling to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Blending action and comedy, the drama follows her efforts to juggle family responsibilities with a dangerous double life.

Gong Hyo-jin stars as Yoo Bo-na, a legendary assassin who once eliminated violent criminals with a sniper rifle before stepping away from her deadly profession after becoming a mother. In her everyday life, she works as the top-performing manager of Sales Team 3 at Durumi Electronics, hiding the fact that she was once feared under the codename “Kingfisher.” The drama promises a fresh twist on the traditional noir genre by exploring the contrast between her ordinary office life and her extraordinary secret identity.

Beyond her career, Yoo Bo-na is also devoted to keeping her family together. She navigates life with her husband Kwon Tae-sung, played by Jung Joon-won, their daughter Kwon Yul, portrayed by Hwang Bom-i, as well as her in-laws and three sisters-in-law. Adapted from the popular Kakao Webtoon of the same name, the series combines everyday family life with high-stakes action while carefully depicting the emotional growth of its characters. Viewers can expect a unique mix of relatable domestic moments and thrilling danger when the drama premieres.

The series also marks Gong Hyo-jin’s return to MBC after 15 years. Her last MBC drama, The Greatest Love in 2011, where she played Gu Ae-jung, achieved a peak nationwide rating of 21.0%. Before that, she had already delivered back-to-back successes with Thank You, Pasta, and The Greatest Love, giving the network three consecutive hit dramas. With her long-awaited homecoming to MBC, expectations are running high as audiences eagerly await another standout performance from one of Korea’s most beloved leading actresses.
