On December 25th (local time), Joey Wong (also known as Joey Wong Cho-Yee, Joey Wang, or Wang Tsu Hsien) shared an update for the first time in a while on her SNS.

In particular, the retired actress published a photo of herself along with the caption, “I wish everyone good health and the fulfillment of your wishes”.

Appearing in a green-toned top, Joey Wong held the camera with one hand and struck a pose. Her casual attire and long straight hairstyle exuded a pure charm. Especially notable was her clear complexion and distinct features, which drew attention despite her makeup-free, natural look.

However, upon the release of the photo, some netizens reacted with comments like, “Did she get plastic surgery?”, “Her face looks so different,” “There’s no trace of her former self,” “She’s changed too much,” and “She looks somehow different,” pointing out her changed appearance.

Particularly, the more pronounced double eyelid line and fuller lips were pointed out as being very different from her past look, which got her named as one of the “4 Hong Kong Goddesses”.

Such changes in her appearance have continued to spark controversy to this day. Back in September, a netizen shared a story of a chance encounter with Joey Wong at a restaurant.

The photo shared by the netizen showed Joey Wong dining with her mentor at a vegetarian restaurant and taking a commemorative photo with the restaurant staff afterward. In the image, Joey Wong, wearing sunglasses, was seen smiling broadly at the camera. However, some netizens pointed out that her mouth appeared unnatural, rousing “plastic surgery” suspicions.

Previously in 2012, a netizen claimed that Joey Wong had undergone facial plastic surgery after being injured in a car accident in Canada. At the time, Joey Wong responded, “Recent baseless reports are absolutely untrue. I am healthy and have no issues, so fans need not worry.”

Meanwhile, Joey Wong made her acting debut in 1984 with the film “It’ll Be Very Cold by the Lakeside This Year” (tentative translation, also known as “Lake Sprite” and “Lake Spirit”). In her early career, she worked on films in Taiwan before moving to Hong Kong, where she took on leading roles in various genres, enjoying immense popularity alongside stars like Chow Yun-fat and Leslie Cheung.

However, Joey Wong suffered a significant blow to her image due to a scandal involving an affair with Hong Kong tycoon Lam Kin-ngok (Peter Lam), who was married at the time. Ultimately, she retired from the entertainment industry after her final film, “Shanghai Story”, which was released in 2004.
