During the episode, host Yoo Byung-jae brought up Go Youn-jung’s role in Resident Playbook, mentioning that she had once said she would not want to meet a doctor like her character Oh Yi-young in real life.
In response, Go Youn-jung explained, “When I was playing Oh Yi-young, there was nothing about her that I didn’t understand. But when I thought about it from a patient’s perspective, it felt like she couldn’t empathize at all and just didn’t care.” She added, “Those kinds of doctors are necessary, but if it were a serious illness in the long run, I think doctors like Nam-kyung or Jae-il, who offer hopeful words, empathy, and comfort, would be better.”
Yoo Byung-jae then asked whether memorizing medical terminology had been difficult. Go Youn-jung replied confidently, “If you memorize without overthinking, it’s manageable. Once you understand what the abbreviations stand for, it actually becomes easier. You start learning about the organs too,” impressing everyone on set.
Jonathan later asked whether her medical drama experience was helpful in real life, such as during hospital visits. Go Youn-jung answered honestly, “Not really. I realized how busy doctors actually are.” She then added with a smile, “But since I played an OB-GYN resident, it made me want to have a healthy delivery someday.”
Her candid remarks drew attention for offering a glimpse into how deeply she immersed herself in the role and how the experience left a lasting impression beyond the screen.
