MC Lee Sang Min is being criticized for asking (G)I-DLE Shuhua a sexual question about naked sleeping, while Soyeon had to help her members.
Recently, a video showing (G)I-DLE Soyeon defending her groupmate Shuhua on the October 29th broadcast of JTBC program “Knowing Bros” has been drawing attention.
In particular, during this episode, Soyeon disclosed that she took inspiration from the movies “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” and “Moulin Rouge”, both of which featuring the “sex icon” Marilyn Monroe, while writing and creating the concept for the (G)I-DLE title “Nxde”.
She also brought up a Marilyn Monroe interview where the actress was asked what she wears to bed, and replied, “What I wear to bed? Nothing but Chanel No. 5”.
Hearing this, male MC Lee Soo Geun commented, “Sleep really feels the best when you sleep in nude. I also don’t wear clothes to sleep”. MC Lee Sang Min then chimed in, “I also don’t wear pants to sleep”, and asked (G)I-DLE if they sleep in nude as well.
As her members struggled to answer, Soyeon ended up speaking up, saying, “What are you thinking? We all sleep with clothes on. You can sleep bare all you want, however.”
Watching the video, Korean netizens showed angry reactions, and rushed to criticize the harassing nature of Lee Sang Min’s question, while at the same time praising Soyeon for her situational control.
Below are some comments from netizens:
- Lee Sang Min took it too far with that question. He’s just super rude
- That was totally sexual harrassment
- (G)I-DLE looked uncomfortable and tried to avoid the question, but he kept asking such a question
- Soyeon is really a born leader, and that MC really crossed a line.
