Jeon So-yeon, the leader of (G)I-DLE, expressed her feelings after watching her team’s change into a five-member group.
Jeon So-yeon appeared as an inspiration mate on JTBC’s “Artist Way,” which aired on May 30th, where she met WINNER (Kang Seung-yoon, Kim Jin-woo, Lee Seung-hoon, and Song Mino), the main characters of “Artist Way” on the cloud bridge of Daedunsan Mountain.
Kang Seung-yoon claimed he has been a fan of (G)I-DLE since 2020, expressing more joy in this surprise meeting. Kang Seung-yoon said, “She’s a singer that I personally admire so much. I really wanted to meet her, but I get the chance to meet you here again like this.” They then engaged into a more in-depth conversation on the way to the grocery store.
Kang Seung-yoon said, “I think you made your name known through Mnet’s ‘Produce 101’ before your debut, right. When you debuted, I thought your role of leading the group as a leader was very cool. I end up complimenting you a lot in interviews and stuff. I have liked (G)I-DLE since your debut. I even thought, ‘They are already like this when they are just rookies?” I may have been more interested in your group because I thought we have similar situations,” he said.
Kang Seung-yoon, who debuted as WINNER’s leader in 2014 after appearing in Mnet’s “Superstar K2” in 2010, has had a long hiatus with Kim Jin-woo, Lee Seung-hoon and Song Min-ho after Nam Tae-hyun, a former member, left in 2016. For Kang Seung-yoon, the crisis was an opportunity and a driving force for them to grow. He worked hard on his songs despite the difficult time and built his skill in making self-composed songs. “REALLY REALLY,” the title song of WINNER’s single “FATE NUMBER FOR” written and composed by Kang Seung-yoon, topped all music charts shortly after its release on April 4th, 2017, leading to the record success of the 4-member WINNER.
Jeon So-yeon’s group, (G)I-DLE (So-yeon, Minnie, Yuqi, Shuhua, Mi-yeon) received huge love from music fans by sweeping the music charts as soon as they debuted. However, the girl group faced a crisis and was re-organized into a five-member group in August last year. Nevertheless, Jeon So-yeon stood tall with her prominent role in the team as a leader and producer. (G)I-DLE released their first full album “I NEVER DIE” in March and their title song “TOMBOY” dominated the top spot on numerous domestic and international music charts, proving the power of (G)I-DLE.
In this regard, Jeon So-yeon said, “We faced a big problem last year”. She continued, “I had this thought at that time. ‘Isn’t the team ruined if a member leaves?’, there was always such prejudice, but WINNER sunbaenims were the only people I trust.” Upon hearing this, Kang Seung-yoon showed sympathy.
Kang Seung-yoon said, “You did so well with this promotion. With the heart of a person who suffered a similar situation, I sincerely congratulate you.” Jeon So-yeon responded, “Thank you so much”, adding, “I feel so thankful”.
