In a recent interview with Elle magazine, Yugi discussed (G)-IDLE’s recent performance in Seoul, the group’s leader and producer Soyeon, as well as herself as an idol and in real life.
(G)-IDLE member Yuqi, who appeared in the July edition of fashion magazine Elle Korea, boasted a classic and luxurious vibe in her photoshoot. During her interview with the magazine, Yuqi revealed her thoughts on various topics, including her personal images, and her group leader Soyeon.
When asked about her experience as a composer, Yugi expressed: “As the producer of our group, Soyeon unnie has the final say on tracks that will appear in our albums. However, she never favors a song just because it was written by a member, and our group as a whole is pretty harsh when it comes to song evaluation. Therefore, if my composition was selected, I’d treat it as recognition for my hard work. Even when buried in work, I try to spend time on music.”
Yuqi also recalled her different images showcased through TV programs, saying: “I’m a pretty strong person. Sometimes, though, I wonder if people started to think of me as bright and strong enough to be infallible. Perhaps I need to show that I do get hurt, and that I do feel weak. But I’m naturally a bright and strong person, so this isn’t changing anytime soon. I always stay true to myself, and I cry a lot. However, I am extremely focus-driven when it comes to my professions. I have pretty strong feelings, and I can get very stubborn. There’s one point where I’m confused about my real self, jumping between my strong image and a weaker one, but now I have embraced both. The persona I’m showing these days makes me feel more comfortable.”
Yuqi was born in 1999, and is currently an active singer, song-writer, and music producer. She debuted in 2018 with the Kpop girl group (G)-IDLE, and also scored various solo activities. In particular, she was a member of the Chinese variety show “Keep Running” (adapted from Korea’s “Running Man”) in 2019 and 2021, and a major host of KakaoTV’s reality show Learn Way in 2020 and 2021. Yuqi is well-known for her iconic husky voice in (G)-IDLE songs, as well as her chipper personality on broadcasts.
