On the November 5 episode of MBC’s Sohn Suk-hee’s Questions 3, G-Dragon reflected on the highs and lows of his two-decade journey with BIGBANG.

When reminded of a past interview where G-Dragon said he wanted BIGBANG to be “the model idol group,” Sohn Suk-hee asked, “Do you think BIGBANG became that model?” G-Dragon replied honestly, “I’m not sure. I wanted us to be, but I don’t think we achieved that.”

Using a metaphor, he added, “It’s like a math problem. The standard answer to 1+1 is 2, but in my lyrics I’d say 1+1 = Jiyong2. That’s my own formula. In that sense, we weren’t the model answer for idols.”

When asked about the toughest moment as the group’s leader, especially during members’ personal scandals, G-Dragon said, “It wasn’t when others made mistakes—it was when I did. Whether it was my own fault or external factors, those were the moments I struggled the most because my actions could shake the entire group.”

Looking ahead to BIGBANG’s 20th anniversary next year, he shared, “I never imagined we’d reach 20 years. Now that we are, I find myself thinking, maybe a 30th anniversary is possible too.” Sohn joked, “If that happens, you’ll be hitting your 50s,” drawing laughter from both.

BIGBANG debuted in 2006 as a five-member group but later restructured to three after the departures of Seungri and T.O.P.

Seungri left the group in March 2019 amid the Burning Sun scandal, which unveiled numerous legal charges, including prostitution, embezzlement, gambling, and foreign exchange law violations. In 2021, he was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison, a sentence later upheld by the Supreme Court in May 2022, with nine charges confirmed guilty.

T.O.P was indicted in 2017 for marijuana use during his military service. He received a 10-month prison sentence, suspended for two years. He officially withdrew from BIGBANG after the group released the digital single “Still Life” in April 2022.
