G-Dragon Drops Comeback Hints, Will Clash with BLACKPINK’s Jennie?
The highly anticipated comebacks of G-Dragon and BLACKPINK’s Jennie seem to be approaching as both continuously dropped "hints".
Jennie declines variety show to focus on solo album preparation
On March 19th, ODD ATELIER announced that BLACKPINK’s Jennie had declined an invitation to appear on the show “My Name Is Gabriel.” According to reports, Jennie will not be part of the expected cast, which was rumored to include Park Bo-gum and Ji Chang-wook. This decision is believed to allow the BLACKPINK rapper to focus on preparing for her solo album.
Since the announcement of her personal label, information about Jennie’s solo album has been circulating across social media. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar last October, Jennie also confirmed her preparations for a solo project. Earlier this year, she had a secret working trip to Los Angeles, USA. Jennie was spotted at a renowned recording studio, hinting at collaborations with music producers for her new album, including those associated with Rihanna, Beyoncé, and Drake.
Jennie has also been teasing new music on Instagram. Recently, she lent her voice to the song “Slow Motion” by Matt Champion. With consecutive music achievements and records set with “SOLO,” “One of the Girls,” and more, fans are eagerly anticipating Jennie’s first solo album.
Considering all the hints, fans are confident that Jennie will return to solo promotions in the first half of 2024. As April approaches, Korean media confirms that the female idol is focusing on album preparation. There is no doubt that new music is on the horizon!
G-Dragon’s comeback also approaching
Similar to Jennie, G-Dragon confirmed his departure from YG Entertainment after over two decades with the agency at the end of 2023. G-Dragon’s solo album project was unveiled on January 1st, 2023, at YG. However, after a tumultuous year with false drug controversies, the male idol’s comeback schedule remains undetermined. Now signed under Galaxy Corp., G-Dragon is gearing up for a comeback.
Most recently, G-Dragon appeared at the fan event of fellow BIGBANG member Daesung. He sat in the audience, watching his group member with pride and affection. At the event, BIGBANG’s Taeyang also made an important announcement. He promised that BIGBANG would “do something together this year”, raising high anticipation.
Following this gathering, hints about G-Dragon’s comeback have been spreading across various platforms. In particular, the male idol was photographed sitting attentively in a music studio and logged into SNS platform Weibo on March 18. G-Dragon rarely engages on this social media platform, but whenever he does, it usually precedes news of a comeback. This pattern was observed previously on January 18th, 2022, before the comeback with “Still Life,” or on June 28th, 2023, followed by the release of a cover of “Can’t Help Falling in Love.”
G-Dragon’s comeback timing is also predicted by Korean media to be in the first half of 2024. During his trip to Los Angeles, USA, in January, G-Dragon was spotted at a music studio.
Furthermore, Jennie’s secretive schedule in Los Angeles coincides with the timing of the BIGBANG leader’s activities. Fans speculate that it is highly likely that the solo projects of these two stars will clash.
On the other hand, Jennie and G-Dragon have a “complicated” relationship, as Dispatch claimed they were dating in early 2021.
Though it may be unlikely, many fans still hope for a collaboration between G-Dragon and Jennie once again, recalling their collaboration on the 2013 song “Black”.
