G-DRAGON MAMA 2025 Untitled tribute

On December 19, G-Dragon released a behind-the-scenes video titled “G-DRAGON – 2025 MAMA AWARDS Behind the Scenes” through his official YouTube channel. The footage documents his journey from preparation to post-performance reflection during the awards ceremony held in Hong Kong.

Ahead of the ceremony, G-Dragon revealed that his mindset differed greatly from previous appearances. “Last year, I had the members beside me, so it felt reassuring. This year, it was different. It wasn’t excitement—it was pressure. I kept thinking, ‘I have to do my part.’”

He also disclosed that he had slept for only one hour before the event, clarifying that the lack of rest was due to personal circumstances rather than external scheduling demands.

While preparing for the performance, G-Dragon learned of a fatal apartment fire in Hong Kong. The news deeply affected him and prompted reconsideration of the planned stage.

“At that point, it wasn’t about whether the performance would be good or bad. I questioned whether performing at all was appropriate.”

Originally slated to perform high-energy tracks such as “DRAMA” and “Heartbreaker,” G-Dragon ultimately revised the setlist and chose “Untitled (2025)” instead. He also incorporated his signature daisy flower motif, explaining that white flowers symbolized mourning.

However, he later expressed regret over how some of the staging elements were executed, noting that symbolic details were used earlier than intended.

Following the performance, G-Dragon openly criticized himself. “This is the situation I fear the most. Even doing well is just breaking even—but not reaching that feels unacceptable.”

He added, “I was breathless from the start. No one had time to warm up, and everything began suddenly. Until the day before, there were still options—perform one song, attend only the ceremony, or not perform at all. What happened feels like a mark I need to fix.”

While acknowledging minor audio issues, he emphasized that there were no major technical accidents. “Nothing went wrong. Nothing went right either. That’s the problem. I have to make up for it.”

G-Dragon’s stage at the 2025 MAMA Awards, held on November 29, sparked debate after the live broadcast, with some viewers pointing out unstable pitch and vocal strain. The behind-the-scenes video provided context, revealing that the performance had been significantly altered at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances.

Rather than deflecting criticism, G-Dragon framed the outcome as a personal responsibility, reinforcing his long-standing reputation for holding himself to unusually high standards.

More than two decades into his career, G-Dragon continues to approach every stage as a defining moment. His candid reflections highlight both the immense pressure faced by top-tier K-pop artists and the internal standards that have sustained his longevity.
